gatdamn enrolment deposits!! i hate them with a passion.
and who could forget last year, around this time?
and why is it $450??!! ever since they changed it last year to 450 from 200, i've had to jump my ass around - either working or borrowing or cash-advancing just to come up with it! ugh!
can you imagine? there are roughly 41,000 students that make up the population at my university. everyone enrols in the month of june (more or less) and is expected to pay his cash within 5 business days (as you can see from the title) of their enrolment.

now take 41,000 scholars, multiply that by $450 a pop....*blah blah blah..drop the zero's...blah blah*..that's $18,450,000!!!

yes, i said
$18,450,000!!
from enrolment deposit fees in a matter of 4 weeks alone!

now couple that with tuition fees ranging from roughly $5000 to $20 000/year depending on your major and whether your an undergrad or graduate student!! can you believe that??!!

that math is too much to do in the span of me typing this entry..but hey..that's alot of cash we're talkin!!
and then you wonder why there's always these rallies by students in canada to freeze tuition fees. and then you wonder why i say to all of you..get out there and vote over the next couple of weeks so we can hopefully get some changes goin.
and then you wonder why universities fees are privatized and can dictate however much you have to pay every year for skool regardless of your financial situation. and then you wonder why i gotta work my ass off every summer just to put my ass in an institution that robs my ass. and then you wonder why, on my backpack i not only have a button that says "FREEZE TUITION FEES", obtained from the federation of students at my skool, but rather screams, "LOWER TUITION FEES"!! but i really shouldn't bitch and moan...our american cousins have it significantly worse..and besides, the majority of their skools aren't up to par with ours..so yea...i really shouldnt bitch. but if i do bitch, you'll notice the thought will suddenly be extinguished before it even jumps off my tongue and slides off my lips. why?...
cause i love my program!
-quote the dork of york.

anyhow...with that off my chest...

...according to york U's Registration and Enrolment Module (a defunked name - i.e. ceasing to exist) and by the will of my own hand, [i am]currently (and happily) enrolled in:

  • Ethics for Kinesiology and Health
This course provides grounding in ethical theories and approaches, and applies ethical paradigms to issues in kinesiology and health science. Two lecture hours and one seminar hour per week. One term.
    why?
ethics! i need to be ethical! whether i end up doing rehab or sports medicine or ergonomics or teaching..and especially in research, i gotta have my ethics straight. p.s. there goes the cloning of the 6-headed lizard baby right out the window. crap.

  • Psychology of Health & Chronic Disease
This course explores the role of psychological variables in the development, progression and treatment of chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, cancer and AIDS. Other critically reviewed topics include stress, substance abuse (smoking and alcohol), and injury and violence. Three lecture hours per week. One term.
    why?
b-b-b-bird course! and of course..im interested. duh.

  • Swimming I
an introduction to the fundamentals of stroke technique for front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breastroke and sidestroke. non-swimmers are encouraged to enrol as this course will focus on deep water skills and safety requirements.
    why?
i need my practical kine courses to graduate -which i'll never complain about considering that in my 3 past years i've been fortunate to take and learn the finer points of strength training, men's gymnastics, european handball, yoga, tai chi, ballroom dancing and track & field at no cost. and being that im almost done, im psyched! im down to my last 3: this swimming plus emergency care & first aid plus golf a week before skool.
this fall, i can hardly wait to get my ass into the pool every tuesday and thursday morning. whatta way to start your day! besides, ill still have my summer body intact vs if i had taken it in the winter..and think about it, 'cause i have...Christmas...during the bitter cold canadian months here..into a pool? that ain't right. although the fat content of myself during those months would help me be the more buoyant human floatation device.

  • Rock and Popular Music
This course explores in-depth from both a musicological and sociological perspective the range of Euro-American popular musics as well as some styles of British popular music that have come into existence since the end of the Second World War. Designed for students not majoring or minoring in music.
    why?
i really wanted the hip hop r'n'b and funk one. im not so much into rock..but hey, im willing to learn. and besides, my friend is taking this course and it's his last year..he's into rock...so i might as well relish these last moments to fuck around during class...and hey, it's an elective..then again, all of my courses are electives..but i meant it's a non-kine elective!! that's grounds to really fuck around. woohaaaaaa!

  • Physiological Basis of Fatigue
An in-depth examination of the physiological processes that limit muscular exercise. Topics include cellular and metabolic failure in sustained muscular contractions, central nervous system limitations, substrate depletion and product accumulation, body fluid shifts and adaptations that forestall fatigue. Three lecture hours per week. One term.
    why?
although extremely hard, im hoping it's dr. hood teaching it, that's all. he's the best overall. a few years ago, you could say that roy jones jr. was the best pound-for-pound boxer regardless of weight class. well...dr.hood, by no means not limited to physiology, is the best prof in my book overall.

    [click me or die]

raise the roof for my prof!!

[yanno, i once thought..but no way...no effin way!
    yer clownin' me.]

    moving on...

  • Exercise and Addictive Behaviours
This course examines a variety of topics in the area of exercise and health psychology with a particular emphasis on the adaptive and maladaptive aspects of exercise, as well as on issues concerning body image, food intake and eating disorders. Three lecture hours per week. One term.
    why?
(see psych of health blurb above in relation to)
sounds easy. bird courses are a green light from me. and besides, anything to boost that GPA..anything!

yea, that's all. im looking to add a course or two more..but oh well. i have too many electives to take till i graduate, so i might as well spread them out into next summer...and possibly a semester??
sacre bleu?!!
