get fingered

over the past couple of months, my dear friend rj dominguez has been finishing up his fine arts degree over at our skool, york u. one assignment that he had to put his back into was a short film. this involved scripting, directing, filming, and casting. on top of all that, alot of the acting was provided free of charge by my boys and and myself. basically, this movie entitled "fingers of death 2" or some alternate top secret title that mr. director isnt sharing with anyone involves a few elements of everything we adore in B film - from '90's one liners to '70's action choreography.

considering that the film might be available for online streaming or download in the near future, im gonna shut my mouth and not spoil anymore. my point is, tonight's the private viewing and i can hardly contain myself. i've been in some scenes, ive heard rjs ideas, but i havent seen the final product; nobody has. you better make us look good rj.

aside from that, rj's biggest work will be showcased at the mirvish bookstore's 'famous fakes showcase' downtown. so if youre in the toronto area, please drop by anytime till the end of may, and check out his work.

[fingers: not only a labour of love
but also a short indie film]

(it's about time you show people your work! ive been on your ass about that for years)

show some love for a true artist and my homie. and if you dont like it, then dont worry, ill be waiting outside to stab u. enjoy.

[mirvish bookstore]

+++ rj's website should be up soon so keep your eyes peeled, boogers.

sometimes, posts that i put on my blogger dashboards as 'saved drafts' just dont have the same effect they had when i first wrote them (live). by now, this is old news. however, in an attempt to move my mr miyagi post downward, in addition to appeasing the blogger audience (y'all) i'll post some posts that were never posted.

april 18th
after the canadian curling championships that were aired late nights between mid march to early april, i kind of gave up looking for zed every late weeknight.

[ziya tong is a kitten who scratches]
i like it!

to my knowledge (obtained recently), the show is on summer hiatus. which sucks. but then again, since zed wont be on during summer late nights, i guess im just gonna have to hang out every night after working all day.

here's where i take the time to say:
if you haven't watched zed before, check out the season's last episode now (it's a mere 30mins of your life)!
it's a really nice look at new media - including: bit torrent, blogger, friendster, personalization without the person and social security. i highly recommend it for your health and well-being. and shit, i even provided an online streaming link to an episode for those of you who dont have access to nor watch the cbc.
enjoy, children.

april 16th
every time i wake up, whether it be during skool season or summer season, i have certain things i do in bed while im slowly regaining consciousness (leave your masturbation jokes at the door).
these things as of late include:

planning what imma do in the day ahead, making the first movements to get out of bed to take my morning poo and pee (once my morning wood goes down), blowing my nose (it's like i work in a smoke-filled bar or i live in a hoover vacuum bag with all the snot i bring up), clear my throat (by singing like pavarotti..la-la-LAH!), hit the ON switch to my computer so i can log on quick and easy (my computer takes quite the sweet ass time to load itself up), make my bed and place the clothes that were on the floor, back on my bed for their day shift (this is what differentiates the daylight hours from moonlight hours - where the clothes in my room lie) and finally, thinking that my scrotom is at times swelling or shrinking for some reason.

now put up your hands if youre with me on these ones...anyone?....

greatest misses
whenever i overlook something or forget to do something, or forget to attend some kind of thing that im supposed to attend, i get pissed.

when i feel this way, for some reason, i wanna stand on my computer chair and imagine myself at the bottom of the grand canyon with no ladders to get up to higher ground and no search teams out there looking for me. when i feel this way, an alternative to the grand canyon theme is me being stuck in one of those bear traps or sasquatch (bigfoot to you american viewers) traps. im talkin one of those ground traps where it's a 10 ft trench masked by branches and leaves..and once the prey or target falls into this inescapable hole, theyre pretty much ready to be stamped and sent into the black market. those kind of traps. yes, those kinda traps are the kind of traps that i imagine myself stuck in and screaming at the top of my lungs. those traps are the traps im in when i realize i missed something.

did you know that i missed 2 concerts?

but why does he gotta show his butt all the time?
im very heterosexual..but im dead serious. what's he squatting?

this statement deems true especially in the case where he plays frank dux in bloodsport. i remember seeing this movie back in 1988 at the eaton centre cinemas with my mom and brother, mark. i remember it so vividly. back then it was, and still is one of my favourite movies of all time, regardless of how cheesy the dialogue seems. sure you can talk about your ong bak all you want...but if it wasn't for movies like bloodsport, one of the original prototype martial arts tournament movies next to bruce lee's enter the dragon and game of death, then the super-spectacular feat movies like ong bak, with all of their glitz and super-moves, wouldn't have even been thought of by their writers.
but back to jean claude. a lot of you might wonder where the hell is he now? it's no surprise that his genre of films became extinct once hollywood started implementing all of these special-effected action movies. the answer to jean claude's whereabouts by he way is: he's in europe..and hes still a star..and he's still making movies.
last i heard (and it might have been a rumour) about jean claude was that he was having a cocaine addiction problem. who know? if that's the case, i'd rather forget about that.
here's just a little homage out of respect for the "muscles from brussels"...

a JEAN CLAUDE 7
(1) his butt
-there's not one movie where jean claude doesn't show off his ass - whether it be bear-back or in some kind of european speedo-type briefs. whatta guy, huh?!!
im not admiring his ass as if im liking it, i just think it'd be so dope if i had an ass like jean claude's. then again, maybe i do and i just don't know it (right, grace and james???)

(2) the splits
jcvd does it, again...and again..and again in almost every movie! i dunno if it's his roots as a dancer or his previous training in karate (prounounced "kah-ra-tay"..i stress this for that whole 80's feel when karate was the shit). i was on this site and it listed brief trivia about the movie bloodsport. did you know that he does the splits in that movie a total of 7 times??? that's great.

(3) his european accent
lines like "i wan to fiiiite" and "iz for my sheh-doh-shee", not to mention the great "ez nawt mii bra-der, e doz-ent wer-a black silk un-da-wors" makes jean claude - JEAN CLAUDE! cmon now. this guy gets all the chicks.

(4) his hair
let's face it, jean claude probably has the master - vidal sassoon himself doing his hair for every movie. we can look back and see jean claude's side part during his early films, to his crew cuts, to the curly mullet in
1993's hard target. whatta beefcake.

(5) his sleevless shirts and low-cut tanktops
this is self-explanatory.
i know my body is pretty good rite now, but i'll promise y'all this...when it gets really good, im bringing back the low-cut tank top and tapered acid-wash jeans look. watch out.

(6) his intensity

(7) his moves

in closing, some favourite scenes:
-bloodsport: where he's training and rips down the two tree trunks with his limbs. youre just gonna have to see it for yourself.

march 20
bittersweet
the setting was me, my dad, my landed immigrant uncle (tito nonong) and my brother. we were in a local sports pub and the occassion, if you haven't been reading, was the big boxing match mentioned below - pacquiao vs morales.
overall, it was a good time to get some bonding between 4 branches of de los Reyes men, some beers and a common interest. of course, there were other filipinos in the establishment; one of the fellow-countrymen strangers even joined us at our table. oh well, the more the merrier, right?
so we get thru 3 pre-fights and finally arrive to the main even starring our beloved manny pacquio aka the pacman with the "manila ice" (don't ask me who made that up). in the earlier rounds, i expected our antagonist, manny to come out strong and agressive leading the fight. as usual i was wrong. in fact, morales out-boxed him, picked his shots and had crispier jabs and harder punches that counted. sure, manny smothered morales at odd intervals during the bout but most of the shots had no effect - at least to the exent of erik morales'.

anyhow, that dance continued for the whole fight.
oh yea, did i mention we were on the one end of the bar (my dad, my uncle, my bro, me and the other unknown pinoy), dead centre in the midst of morales fans - mostly some fat ass mexicans and a few white dudes - who were loud and boisterous, of course. anyhow, as we watched manny get licked every now and then in concert with the cheers and table-banging of the morales fans that surrounded us, i came to the realization that although i wanted manny to win, deep down inside, i had my doubts that he would actually win.

why is that?
this entry goes far beyond a simple boxing match.

here was this guy, manny pacquiao; he beat barrera and marquez (two both highly ranked and acclaimed mexican boxers) recently and yet, the guy, through my eyes still had something to prove to me.

is it that bad?
am i the product of conditioning?
have filipinos been failures on this part of the world so much that i almost expect a fellow countryman to lose?
whatever the case, i whole-heartedly supported manny 200%.
to me, this was our chance to show the world. not too many people in the world, other than its inhabitants and their friends, realize that the philippines has a hell of a lot of talent to offer.
all too often, i feel, in my heart, we haven't been given the credit we deserve for many things. i know..this sounds like it goes along with my philosophy that one should stay hungry in order to be happy in life - but shoot, at the same time, it's nice to actually gain some success and enjoy the fruits of your labour once in a while - are y'all with me on that one?

going back to manny, this was our man. he represented and still, for that matter, represents us. seeing this short, dark-skinned filipino man in an american boxing ring...i dunno how to explain it - it just struck a cord with me.

a few words about being done

being done can be something so simple.
it can involve a firm handshake from your ethics professor. being done can also involve saying your last goodbyes to those youve come to share relationships with; people that youve learned from and matured with. being done can involve making promises to stay in touch with these people - when you really know that's highly unlikely. being done can be taking the time off from your planned 6 hour study session to grab some vietnamese food for lunch with your boys. being done can be looking over your scantron card carefully and tying up any loose ends that you might've been skeptical about. being done means walking out of the lecture hall with "that feeling", getting on the bus, arriving home and sitting in front of the computer - blogging in your underwear.

i'm done.
well done.
holla at me, dawgs.

funny how as of late, ive been wanting to update.
i cant though; not just yet.

i have these things. theyre called final exams.
ive had the whole month to prepare for 'em and now doomsday is just around the bend.

not really "doomsday" per se since ive been conditioning my brain better than any pantene pro-vitamins couldve done with your greasy-ass dry-combo frizzy scalp.

in the meanwhile i say dont fret, i shall return soon.
i promise.

i mean, what the fuck else am i gonna do with these 4 saved drafts on my blogger dashboard?

shewwwwwwt.

if it ain't broke don't fix it.

why do we always gotta fix shit?
how far do we have to go to improve the quality of life?
what's a quality life?

now i dunno what the hell im talkn bout...anyhow...

i was doing some online reading, and it appears to me that they've just taken it a bit too far. you gotta be fucking kidding me. and this isnt even about me hatin' on ipod, cause i think the ipod is pretty cool..just not cool enough for me - cause im super-dooper cool. anyhow, if this little contraption ever makes its way into the mass market, i'd lose of my affinity and appreciation towards the d.j. (if placed in this too-advanced and futuristic scenario); id also lose my appreciation for the sexy female dj.

dj's are artists too. turntablism is art. whether you spin house or disco, funk or industrial, breaks or downtempo, being able to fade properly, beat-juggle, hype a crowd, make a whole song out of a 2 second break sample (really, the basis of hip hop) off vinyl takes a trained ear and some fine motor skills. yea yea...you can argue digital music is the wave of the future, but there's that nostalgia attached to vinyl, records and the dj. sure, the sound isnt crystal clear like on a cd, but that's what makes a record a record. when you buy a record; when you buy vinyl, youre getting an actual replica of the master template from which the original studio and recording from where that artist or sound was created.

this digital/ipod-turntable (if you can even call it a turntable) is just too much.
keep the dj alive...but for fuck's sake, dont give him or her 4 prosthetic arms.

"my name is shannyn sossamon. im an actress, but im also a sexy dj.
im also half-filipino and dare i mention how much i love jay and his great blog?!!
oh yea, i also think the ipod turntable sucks donkeys."

"hey there, my name is fatboy slim and i love my motherfunkin' vinyl.
balls to that thing that jay's talkin about."

there you go...two dj's have spoken. you heard it here first.
there's the scoop.

it's tense.

as of late, ive been having some headaches from hell. not migraines..cause those are from the deep depths of hell - these headaches are more from the 1st level of hell. i think theyre tension headaches.

i was watching this segment on some local news show and there was this plastic surgeon who cured patients with migraine headaches by removing various facial muscles that increase pressure on certain temporal and occipital nerve regions. there was then this other dr. who refuted this plastic surgeon's finding. he said that migraine headaches, because of the mechanics of how a migraine headache occurs, cannot in no way, shape or form be alleviated by removing a few facial muscles.

imma let those two doctors go at it..all i know is, i think im having some tension headaches. then again, it could be because ive been playing video games and looking at this damn monitor at odd hours of the nite; that could be messing me up just the same. i sure hope i dont have an anneurysm or some kind of slow venous bleed. that'd be fucked up. imagine if i was slowly bleeding inside of my head from a previous injury that i overlooked? imagine if all the blood just kept increasing in my brain until there was no room in my skull?..then all of a sudden, my brain just burst due to all of the pressure placed on it?!!...then from all facial orifices, blood and cerebal spinal fluid started seeping out? then youd go, "jay, youre bleeding from your ears, nostrils and eyes..u ok?"..then all of a sudden, my head popped off my neck like a cork out of a wine bottle?

that'd be some crazy shit, right there.

"get that fucking screw out of my head, you anorexic assclown!"

i shouldn't joke about that though. i have a headache. damn.

my manifesto.

considering that i've been lacking over the past few months as a result of studies, today, i was inspired to start my exercise regimen again. it's not so much that i feel the personal need to go run or jump rope or hit the punching bag - more so, it was due to the fact that my mom, with her high (but improving) cholesterol levels and arthritic knee, had the drive to get up this morning and go for a walk outside. in my field, ive dealt with and studied demographics consisting of top notch athletes to the disabled. from my viewpoint, im more inspired by the disabled who are out there and active. im also inspired by the overweight people who hit the gyms in an effort to improve their life. i could care less about the buffoons who can lift the heaviest of the heavy dumbells; although theyre worthy of a glance or three, i whole-heartedly dont give a shit about the girls who go all out in their nike dri-fit sports bras in their aerobic and/or boxfit classes. if i ever become a phys-ed teacher/pro/researcher, my main goal will not be to refine kids who already have the potential to become pro-athletes with their multi-zillion dollar sign on deals and promotions; they'll come across teachers and coaches who will direct them, believe me. for my classes, my attention shall be directed towards the kids who never get picked for teams, for the overweight kid who gets knocked; for the kid who never really felt they belonged and also for the kid who never cared about their health - including eathing and exercise habits. theyre the ones who i really wanna direct all efforts towards.

that was just an excerpt from the constantly-changing manifesto that i keep replaying in my head over and over again.

get off the computer, go for a walk and enjoy the weather.
stop slouching, i can see you motherfuckers.

3 quick considerations:
1. part of a complete breakfast
get your physical activity done in the morning before work if you can. if not, do increments throughout the day; a little is better than none.

2. bragging rights
rocky emailed me a few weeks back to join a nike 10K at the end of may. considering that april is a write off at this point due to exams, i dont see myself running that. there's just not enough time to train..and shoot, i might get a fulltime job at any minute. anyhow, although i love the guy, he wrote, "let's run this for bragging rights". first of all, i dont participate in exercise or runs for 'bragging rights'. if yall are doing this for bragging rights, believe me, youre doing it for the wrong reason. you should be doing it for a personal goal. fuck bragging rights. movement has no meaning if it's based on bragging rights. if there's a run at the end of summer, consider me there. also, a 10K run is a 10K run. just because youre with your friends, doesnt mean it's gonna be a "fun run". 10 kilometres is 10 kilometres. i applaud the boys though. train hard!

3. low carb is bullshit
a co-worker of mine keeps talking about how her friend is really killing her in the gym. i think this is good. aside from that, she keeps telling me how "brand A" soda has so many calories and how she doesnt eat carbs. mannnnnnnnn fuck low-carb! and fuck diets! diets dont work. if a diet worked, you would be able to go off the diet and maintain your weight. if a diet worked, you would never re-gain the weight once you went back to your normal eating pattern. diets are wack..and i read this on a poster at skool in the fine arts building (thanks rj): "dieting is the first step to eating disorders". that poster nailed it. if you dont believe me, give me youre address and i can fed ex yall some tangible knowledge. back to the heading, low carb is bullshit. this remains true especially for the active/exercising person. carbs (yes there are "good" and "bad ones") give you the energy to actually do these exercises. so why in the world would you want to reduce your carb intake? that's counterproductive. low carb works for the inactive person because they dont need that much energy. but even then, if youre taking in all of this protein and fat (which is really what a low carb diet advocates) then youre killing your heart, your kidneys and your liver. so you make the choice, low carb to look good on the outside with fucked up insides? or carb-included to be healthy. we need life-long changes here. we need to change eating habits not diets. oh yea..low carbs make you moody and hostile at times. ask any physiologist, nutritionist or psychologist.
eat your rice, bitches...(brown is better but what can you do? pass me the jasmine, daddy-o!)

[it's not so much their physical appearance that bothers me, it's the condition of their hearts]

that's all for now.
in fact..i think imma join my mom for a walk after dinner. peace.

p.s. yes, i am very fucking passionate about what i do.

1. mozilla firefox
the condom of the internet.
forget Internet Explorer, this badboy is ribbed for extra pleasure.

2. limewire
kazaa lite is good, but this is great! im not sure if this downloads spyware on your computer or not, but if you get firefox, then this goes hand in hand because then, you wouldnt have to worry about spyware. damn espionage!! dammit to hell! thanks abs.

3. the foreign exchange - connected
a friend told me about this a few months back (kudos, con).
what do you get when you mix the chilled out downtempo/lounge beats of electronica with pure hip hop?...im not sure exactly, but this sounds damn good, especially when played at night, while driving, or on your headphones on the bus or in the john.
aside from that, did you know that these two artists never came together in the studio?..the whole album was sent back and forth from europe to the u.s.

4. crown city rockers - earth tones

organic hip hop...and instrumentals by them on top of that! nice.

5. the cosby show season 1
years..literally years, ive been waiting for this!
i just might have to dedicate a whole entry to the significance of the cosby show.
yea, i might just do that..keep your eyes peeled.
mark an august 2nd release date on your foreheads too!

6. dell notebook
i want her. i'll get her. she will be mine.
oops..was i saying that out loud?

7. gta san andreas
l.a. gangsters, chinese gangsters, viet gangsters, russian gangsters, hookers, pigs..whoever you are, you have been recognized in this video game.
it's bigger than a brontosaurus!!
it's like one of those novels you never wanna put down..except its not a novel..and except youre not improving any useful skills; something along those lines.
this is up there among the greatest video games of all time..right beside pac-man and the street fighter series. cop it now if you haven't!

but the kid is not my son

today i dropped into hmv. my homeboy mark had ready to die by the notorious b.i.g.
the deal was 2/$25 - that's 2 cds for 25bucks; which isnt all that bad considering the unreasonable,near-30 dollar price tags that come along with most of today's cds. so to refresh, mark had his eyes on ready to die but wasn't ready to dish out 25 bucks for 2 cds. i looked around and for a minute i wanted a copy of ready to die, too! i mean, it is one of the greatest hip hop cds ever. and this particular one was a remaster including a dvd with 5 videos. that's a sweet deal!! but i had to look around, i just had to. i considered the streets' a grand don't come for free album but then finally, i came to my decision as we approached the cash register. there..right there on the rack at the cash-out was the ultimate...and i know my kuya (older brother) has the original record somewhere in his house..and i know i have the history album with all of his hits..but i just had..had to get the special edition & remaster of......

[michael jackson - thriller]

aside from being one of the greatest albums of all time, there's a certain nostalgia i attach to this baby. ask my mom, my dad, my brothers my aunts & uncles..shoot, ask the neighbours!! i used to dance like michael jackson. i still can...but i'll just save that for when i have my own house, kids and wife. strictly for them..and maybe my wedding.

and like i said before, i gotta get me a pet tiger!!
i shit you not.

just
beat it!
no one wants to be defeated.

i've been clubbing till 3am in the morning; i've been raving till 9; i've had night shifts from 9 at night till 4 in the morning, but yesterday was the first time, from all the jobs that i can recall, that i've worked a 12 hour shift.

sure this 12 hour ain't no doctor's shift or anything of that grander, but fuck, you try tagging roughly 1000 items with those retail security tags in addition to putting them on blazer hangers, flat hangers or pant hangers! 12 hours of that crap. 11-11. nonetheless, it was probably one of the best days ive had working. i guess it all depends on who you work with.

beyond that, i consumed 48 oz of smoothie. so with that said, fuck all of y'all east coast & west coast gangsters guzzling down your 40 ouncers of hops - i be sipping pineapple passions and mango madness thru a straw. eat my dust.

for the past few days, i've been meaning to write this big elaborate reflection on all that has gone on over the past 4 years of university. i was gonna touch on how going to york u has made me different. iwas also going to infer what would've happened if i had accepted my offers to the university of toronto and brock university, respectively. the entry mightve touched on what would've happened if me and my highschool friends went to the same university; something along the lines of: if we all went to the same school or lived together, we would've got shit-all done in addition to probably impregnating a bunch of girls, therefore fucking up their futures too. but that didnt happen.

[corny sunset scene for you to reflect on]

the retrospection would've touched on how going to school friendless; in a new environment; enrolled into a very demanding major (personally) has enabled me to be: more disciplined, create new friendships, create ties with world-renowned professors, experience the nutrition of student centre crap - often mistaken for food, frosh week, using fake names to apply for credit cards in order to get free shit, my addiction to caffeine, being one of the pioneers who commuted up to york when GO buses came only once an hour and monthly passes were a mere $70 (vs now where they come every 15minutes via 3 diff. possible routes to home and with a hefty $101/month pass). i wouldve also hypocritically touched on how there is really no hope for today's youth before explaining that as an aspiring teacher i believe they also have a lot of potential.
really, the entry wouldve focused on all of that, and a lot more.

but there's just not enough time; so this is gonna have to be the substitute to what you all read and eventually what im gonna read and reflect on in the future.

i'll say it again, congrats to the graduates of 2005.
in addition, we'll just place a very old and cliche catch-phrase to end:

"the world is your oyster"
(therefore, y'all better shuck the hell outta shit!!)

p.s. regardless of what youre hearing, i want to assure you that an
education, especially a university degree, is never out of style.

p.p.s. keep on keepin'on, imma do me.
