well, it's officially the day before Christmas; i just finished 5 days straight of hardcore shifts - pushing mexx clothing and accessories like they were crack rock. tomorrow i am finally off for a couple days till the infamous boxing day where i start work at 7:30am till 9pm. it's gonna be insane in the membrane. absolutely.
enough about that though...that was probably the most interesting week of 2004. considering i got into that accident, i figured id be down for a bit, but once again, i underestimated myself. who can be down when...
jesus our saviour is born!
yes, that's what december and all this mall madness is about. despite popular belief, Christmas IS NOT the birthday of santa. and on the way home rite now, my friends brought up a good point. if you dont wanna call it "Christmas" (in other words, you wanna change the name) then don't celebrate Christmas! aside from Hannukah and Kwanza, you have no other reason to celebrate other than having an excuse to give gifts..which in that case, is fine...enjoy this holy day. i want everyone to enjoy it...just dont change the name of it - cause this is really a Christian holiday - if you didn't know.

well, i just got home...my friend's girlfriend is up from virginia and we just had dinner with her and sister toni...theyre tired after the long drive, im sure...and im tired after all this work. you might not know it, but wearing a monochromatic black outfit for 5 consecutive days can really make you feel down...time for some color. geez..before that though, off to bed.
see y'all at midnite mass tomorrow...but not before i make one final stop at the mall.

what i got my nephew/Godson jake:

and for niece jules:

['artlist: the dog collection' 150 piece jigsaw puzzle]

and

++ the day my butt went psycho

+++ zombie butts from uranus!

+++ just joking!

all by andy griffiths...in a box set!!!!! that's whoa.

plus

yeah!
i fucking rock!!!

and if uncle jay rocks..then his niece and nephew shall rock just the same!

p.s. i took my mom to see "crying ladies" last week; i just haven't had the time to post my thoughts about that.
you'll have to stay tuned to lapulapulovesU (thanks to anyone who has contributed to my 1000+ hits on that sister-site, eventhough i rarely update).
in the meantime, keep on truckin'.

my job is too good.
and the benefits, well, there are no benefits; i just benefit.

to the red-headed girl who came in last week and again today...if you're asking for my name because you really appreciate my service, then thank you. if on the other hand, you're saying im nice and youre stuffing clothes in your 4 big bags while my attention has been diverted, then motherfuck, i will cut your throat you fucking bitch.
i don't care much for shopliftting. actually, if youre gonna steal - go steal..just dont insult my intelligence and contort my reasoning...steal - just do it while im not looking; don't insult me.

to the young chinese woman who i helped to buy a suit today, you are so gatdamn magnificent! there's something about a young woman in a suit that leaves me at a loss for words.
there's something about a young chinese girl in a suit that will burst the zipper off my black slacks.
girls who carry themselves with dignity without being proud - you get mad props.
i even got mad props from her parents and beyond that..the suit was on sale! the motherfucking blazer alone was reduced from $160 to $59.99..i hook up my asian sisters nice.

to the desperate housewife (a.k.a. one of the dozens of milfs who drop in) shopping for her son, cut down on the flirting and grabbing me..and yes, i will be working boxing day; yes, my name is jason..unfortunately, no i will not and cannot have sex with you in the fitting room...stop grabbing me all over and eyeball fucking me..and again, no we cannot fuck in the fitting room. and yes, i know jason is a nice and common name..stop praising my name - we're still not fucking.

to the blonde girl that was bursting out of her blazer...with the big knockers and the dopey looking boyfriend, please come back.

to anyone reading this, shopper's drug mart has a sale on reese-peanut butter cups (regular sized 3 packs) going at 99cents for 2 packs! if you do the calculus, that's less than a buck for 6 peanut butter cups! add a 69cent of berry-flavoured sparkling water and you have a high calorie snack to get you through the 2nd half of your 8 hour shift at mexx...all under 2 dollas...holla!

one snow storm, coming right up!

but in retrospect a little bad is good.

oh well..boo hoo i got into an accident yesterday.
today's a new day...and besides, we all know im...

2 legit 2 quit.
proper.

one more thing, i told you that peanut butter is the most perfect thing to eat.

then again, i wouldn't eat the shit out of the jar like that. yuck.

it's comforting to know that your parents' main concern is the well being of your car over yourself. sure, if you were a parent, the only natural reflex upon hearing the word "accident" uttered from your mouth would be to question the well-being of your car first and foremost. i mean limbs, nerves, eyes and other things are easily replaceable; leasing another life is as easy as heading down to your nearest dealer or even skimming through the classified ads for a great deal on a used one - beware however, some are lemons. but on the flip side, those green sport subaru wagons - well, those things are just priceless. a pay check or two could never replace something like that, would it? a slight dent on the bottom panel of the door..well, those take years and years to develop. the years and effort those workers at the plant put into their automobiles - well, those are timeless and irreplaceable memories. and how could anyone even think about comparing the primitive engineering of the human body to something so fascinating as the ingenuity and care taken towards producing that much horsepower?

stay positive

Cos this world swallows souls
And when the blues unfold
It gets cold silence burns holes
You're going mad
Perhaps you always were
But when things was good you just didn't care
This is called irony
When you most need to get up you got no energy
Time and time shit'll happen
The dark shit's unwrapping
But no-one's listening your mates are laughing
Your brethren's fucking and then you start hating
Your stomach starts churning and you mind starts turning.
So smoke another draw
It won't matter no more but the next day still feels sore
Rain taps on your window
Always did tho but you didn't hear it when things were so-so
You're on your own now
Your little zone you were born alone and believe me you'll die
alone
Weed becomes a chore
You want the buzz back so you follow the others onto smack

Feels nice and still
Good thing about brown is it always will
It's easy, no-one blames you
It's that world out there that's fucked you
You know less of a person and if God exists
He still loves you
Just remember that - the more you sink the further back from
that brink
Maybe you've lifetime scars and you think tattoos might be more
fitting
But who's picking?
Searching for yourself you find demons
Try and be a free man and grasp that talisman
Cos your the same as I am
We all need our fellow man
We all need our samaritan.
Maybe I'm better looking than you tho
Maybe I've got more dough - but am I happier... no.
Get the love of a good girl and your world will be much richer
than my world
And your happyness will uncurl

Stop dreaming
People who say that are blaspheming
They're doing nine to five and moaning
And they don't want you succeeding when theyve blown it
And your idols - who are they?
They too dreamt about their day
Positive steps will see your goals.
Whether it's dollars or control, feel the gold.
I aint helping you climb the ladder
I'm busy climbing mine.
That's how it's been since the dawn of time
If you reach a cul-de-sac
The world turns it's back
This is your zone, it's like blackjack
He might get the ace or the top one
So organise your two's and three's into a run then you'll have
fucked him son
And for that you'll be the better one
One last thing before you go though
When you feel better tommorow you'll be a hero
But never forget today. you could be back here
Things can stray
What if you see me in that window?
You won't help me I know.
That's cool, just keep walking where you go.
Carry on through the estate, stare at the geezers so they know
you aint lightweight
And go see your mates
And when they don't look happy
Play them this tape

I hope you understand me
Just trying to stay positive
I aint no preaching fucker and I aint no do-goody-goody either
This is about when shit goes pear-shaped
And if you aren't or ever have been at rock bottom then good
luck to you in the big wide world
But remember that one day shit might just start crumbling
Your bird might fuck off or you might loose your job
It's when that happens that what I'm talking about will feel
much more important to you
So if you aint feeling it, just be thankful that everything's
cool in your world

so i guess this is how it feels to get yourself into a car accident.
we'll discuss this later on; i have to get ready for work.

what's a Christmas without a reggae Christmas cd?
the old, tired white men tiredly opening their mouths and singing the classic carols just don't do it for me. i need some jamaicans, steel drums, island riddems, and organ taps to make my season the season.

but why is everyone so greedy on kazaa?
why?

and dont worry, it's not like didnt attempt to buy a reggae Christmas cd at hmv before having the young, clueless, white-rocker sales associate, probably named chad or biff, look for the damn thing.

if you're a filipino canadian in ontario and you don't have a reggae Christmas cd/tape/record...what the hell is wrong with you???!!!

it's the island flava!
sorry..i mean..jah irie island flava!
respeck!

yesterday was terrrrrrriffffic! dinner was da bomb; my peeps are da bomb; and everything afterwards was gnarly (dude!).
got home at 4...just woke up to answer a phone call. after attempting to blow, only to fail miserably, i pulled out the biggest, blackest, bloodiest snot from the roof of my nose. the experience was so painful beautiful that i cried. my voice is so hoarse and raspy, my shoulder feels like it's broken - probably from some weird position i took in my bed last nite...and i feel a slight fever - which better not be a cold or flu. in a few hours, i attack those dreadful malls again to complete phase II of my 2004 shopping experience. before that though, imma need 4 cans of red bull, a cold shower, an air-horn blown in my ear and a kick in the balls by a punter to really get into the zone.

[a punter/guy who kicks the pigskin between the uprights
and/or kicks the scrotum between my legs]

thanks for the tshirt again, ani!

p.s. i still didnt get my pants from the dry cleaners yet. can you imagine if i waited and waited???? i wouldve probably showed up in my thermal underwears or even jogging pants.
yuck, that's my morning breath calling...i need to rendezvous with my toothbrush.

they say that writing your thoughts down are just one way to cope with stress. aside from crying and killing people, that the source i heard this from mentions, i felt blogging would be the most promising means for me.

i've been busy like a donkey for these past few days. i mean youd think that i would take some time off to just relax for a minute, considering that finals are done, but i don't and i cant..and frankly, i dont want to.
i haven't started Christmas shopping yet, which is probably gonna burn me in the ass when it really boils down to me driving my ass to the mall and getting something.
related to that, i was at the club monaco outlet last nite after work (car survey, not mexx) and i noticed, aside from the sweet-ass sales, that they're hiring - so colin, or rj, if you're still interested in finding some viable means of making cabbage, then there's an opportunity, if youre interested. back to me working hard, i called my manager yesterday and opened up my schedule for full time status concerning next week. that means im available from open to close during the week leading up to Christmas; that also means imma have the opportunity to make a killing in there. then again, that also means i currently have no idea how on God's green earth im supposed to find time to shop for everyone.
it's all good though, us men like to go into malls with a gameplan - we know what we want; go in; infiltrate the location of our desired object(s); extract the object; and get the hell out of there. it's like socom or even halo..except we usually dont blow someone's brains out all over the surrounding walls in a pulpy, crimson frenzy.
ever notice that? i've been shopping with girls and frankly, i dunno how you do it. for me, i just go in, do my thing and get the hell out of there...in the male mind, it's like we feel the mall is gonna collapse or explode at any moment.; maybe a swarm of small children might come herding towards us like a group antelope; maybe some psychotic-cracked up terrorist will put a lethal toxin in the venitlation system...whatever the case... and when that goes down, we'd rather be at home sleeping..or watching a boxing match...or even scratching our butts.
aside from stressing over Christmas, i was at church this past weekend after a 2 wk absence. there were a few changes. for one, aside from the portugese or south american priests who usually lead the mass, this weekend's preist was filipino! ive been to one mass where the priest was filipino..but in that case, he was talking fluent filipino throughout..and/or he had a really thick accent that even i couldnt decipher. this guy however, was very well spoken, had a light accent and really made a point about stressing over Christmas. now i can't quote him exactly, but in conclusion, shortly and sweetly to the point, he said that jesus is the reason for the season.
which is true. if you did not know, "Christmas" really means "Christ's Mass" (which really infuriates me when motherfuckers take the shortcut and write Xmas - that's like cutting out your whole name. fuck that, that is cutting out your whole name..that's like me writing 'Xson'..wtf happend to the "ja" part??..the jay part is 90% of the whole effect of my name! ugh!).
i remember getting one of my friends a gift one year for Christmas; i should also state that she's an athiest. she goes, "you don't have to get me a gift, i'm athiest, i dont celebrate Christmas". i replied, "i know i dont have to get you a gift,; nobody has to get anyone anything; but i wanted to. besides, im catholic, and i just happen to celebrate Christmas".
no shit, you (athiests) don't celebrate Christmas..i do..and i include everyone into the season because for fuck's sake..i do celebrate it. so if youre one of those athiests or muslims or scientologists..or anyone who doesnt observe this great holiday of ours..then imma tell you, it's all good! it doesnt matter to me...im still celebrating it on my part..and im still including y'all in my joy and holiday cheer...pass me the Christmas lights, homeboys and homegirls.
well friday's already here tomorrow...that means my long annual planning of dinner with 20 of my closest friends is to go down. that also means, for some reason, that im gonna have to come out of my 3 week retirement from clubbing - as rocky's gf's friend or some other reason totally unrelated to me, means i should join everyone. besides, these past 2 weeks were killer. i need a glass of scotch - something to burn the 5 hairs off my chest..but kids, i am in no way, shape or form, promoting alcohol use..know this. well, that was a moderately-lengthed entry..i still never did that long ass entry that i promised i'd do once i officially came back to doing 'real' posts. oh well, guess you just might never get that. also, my internet might go down at any minute, so if you dont hear or see me for awhile..and/or if this is your only means of knowing what's going on with me..then youre screwed. youre gonna probably think i was attacked by a south-pacific tribe of cannibals..which might not be totally out of the question.

with love from kabul,
Xson

p.s. i know you comic nerds read this..(yes this means you)
so here's a link that you might wanna check out.
this 6am therapeutic/anti-insomnia post is defunct. proper.

did you know that i am one of the few people left in the (technologically) developed (and ever-advancing) world that still has to write a tangible roughout on paper?
is it clear that i make mistakes and need to see these mistakes scratched out in blue ink and later corrected in red?

yes, im very aware that typing out an essay on the computer is a faster and more effective means to output work. however, i need the feel of my thoughts on crumpled, dog-eared paper just as much as i need to have dried ink all over my fingers.

i am the bridge between the past of my parents' stationary means of expression and my children's computerized future.
that makes me the present.

here's what i have down so far (*note* slowly but surely, i am transcribing my essay on paper to microsoft word 2003):

[exerpt from my section - unofficially titled "media's effect on drug use"]

The mass media dramatically affects human life in so many ways. In North America and most of the developed world, there is little chance of a person being able to walk down the street without being bombarded by some form media advertising – whether it be through print, music & radio or television. The internet is another form of mass media rapidly taking over the visual and auditory spaces of the human psyche.

Media acts to shift an individual’s way of thinking. A medium determines how one may perceive certain people, places, practices or objects. At times, these perceptions lead to prejudices and outlooks whether false or true, that are negative and positive. Mass media has a strong influence in creating a positive perception of drug use leading to abuse and addiction.

Before media’s influence of drug abuse is discussed, it is important to understand the psychological impact of an advertisement. According to Daryl Bem’s ‘Theory of Self-Perception’, “we only have that knowledge of our own behaviour and its causation that another person can have, and that we therefore develop our attitudes by observing our own behaviour and concluding what attitudes must have caused them” (Stanton, 1996). In other words, people assume that the behavior of others and the context in which it occurs (e.g. ads) provides information about the presumed attitudes of the people (in the ads). If this notion is applied to alcohol advertisements for example, the consumer might conclude that drinking alcohol equates happiness and good experiences. Seeing a man and women together having fun and holding a drink – smiling, as most are in such ads, sends out the message that “you, too, can be this happy, but only if you drink this alcohol beverage”. Stated simply, the people are happy because they are drinking alcohol - which is obviously illogical. Believing that an alcoholic beverage or other product is the only means of gaining satisfaction in life is false and misleading on the part of the advertising firm and product corporations. Unfortunately, most individuals fail to see this. Because media is everywhere and ‘in your face’, advertisements have a lasting effect on your perception of these products.

First, cigarette advertisements consistently use language and images which contradict health label warnings and scientific evidence that smoking is hazardous. For years, the nicotine industry was convinced that tobacco products are not harmful. Today, cigarette companies ensure the general public that they make every effort to detail the harmful effects of smoking on their packaging. Meanwhile, contradicting themselves, tobacco advertisements promote their “dangerous & health-hazardous” products through their ads. In many cases, adolescents are the target demographic of these tobacco campaigns. Because the adolescent mind is not fully developed, this media-audience is swarmed with ads that motivate youthful and, in effect, long-term, life-long smoking habits. Adolescents are attracted by the lifestyle and reward that cigarette smoking advertisements promise. For instance, The Famous Marlboro Man illustrates an image of masculinity that young impressionable males look up to. Because the Marlboro man is a cowboy, he symbolizes a sense of heroism; his rustic and burly appearance represents a level of power and toughness that most males strive to be. The act of him smoking a Marlboro cigarette becomes an element of this masculinity when viewed by the male youth. When repeatedly observed, as most of these advertisements are in magazines and billboards, this image becomes ingrained into the mind. The male adolescent therefore, turns to smoking as a means of affirming his masculinity......

[an old ad; we've evolved
as humans in our ability to rationalize since then
(somewhat..i hope)]

ya-hoooooooooo~!
bad breath, greasy hair, a bearded face, deteriorated retina, 3 hours of sleep and 2 days later of non-stop sitting in front of the computer - i have finally finished all 150 journal entries concerning early rock('n' roll) spanning from the the late '40s to the mid '70s. that included a paragraphed bio for each artist, that i was not allowed to repeat, an analysis of the chosen song (instruments used and composition; unique vocals and all that bullshit) plus a personal observation (e.g. this song really makes me want to rock out and just head butt my skull against a cement wall...etc.etc.).

150 entries.
2 entries per page at 10 font.
and roughly 76 pages.

next term, i have another 150 entires to do spanning from the mid '70s to the present.
after not showering since yesterday morning and after not leaving the house, except for walking the dog, i am now going to shave my head and my face.

it aint over yet. i have am working editor for a group paper; a group paper containing information that my fellow members have yet to send me; a group paper due on monday; the same monday that i have a final exam at 9am - but not before the sunday nite when i have a mexx dinner i am scheduled to attend.

c'monnnn monday!
btw, i heard yesterday's kine exam for motorlearning was cancelled and rescheduled for sunday night (at 7-10pm!!!!) due to a.....BOMB THREAT?!!!
gluck fellow kins in 3rd year - been there and done that!

i feel dirty. terribly dirty.

after waking up to our first 'serious' snowfall of the year and even driving around this morning (under high stress) i couldnt help but reflect on a lecture from last winter term's exercise physiology course.
hot damn, that had to be my favourite course of all time.
anyhow, dr. hood touched on several concerns when shoveling heavy, wet snow. basically, it's bad for you. i can write on and on using scientific jargon to amuse and impress you but that aint my style.
in laymen's terms, shoveling is bad for you (if youre over 60 and/or if youre physically inactive).

here's an excerpt from the rodale book, "disease free at 60 plus":
How Shoveling Strains Your Heart

When you shovel snow, you tend to hold your breath as you lift, Dr. Hargarten says. That increases pressure in your chest and reduces blood flow to your heart. At the same time, cold air constricts your blood vessels. All of this pushes up your blood pressure and forces the heart to work even harder. If your heart arteries are damaged or partially blocked with plaque, these things can combine to set you up for a heart attack.

Doctors are uncertain if physical exertion like snow shoveling also contributes to the onset of a stroke, Dr. Mittleman says.

So is snow shoveling a good idea if you're older than 60? If you're exercising regularly, you're living a healthy lifestyle that includes low-fat eating, you're getting regular physical exams, and you do not have any signs of heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes, you can probably safely do it, Dr. Hargarten says. Otherwise, it is smarter to get someone else to do it for you.
[full article available here]

i googled this article and posted it 'cause it mentions how holding in your breath (which is what most of us tend to do when exerting force over a heavy load) while shoveling increases intrathoracic pressure (i.e. internal pressure around the vital area of body). this in turn, increases your blood pressure.
increased blood pressure, if you didnt know, is bad, real bad.
back to my point, we learned that the act of holding your breath while exerting force is called the "valsalva effect". it just brought back old memories from last year, cause dr. hood, my prof, explained it so memorable. he stated that the valsalva effect often occurs during weight training, and more importantly, and i'll quote the doc, "when you're in that little room, sitting on that ceramic chair, with your elbows on your knees making "hrrmpppph" sounds "[pause, think and re-read if necesssary].

to get the full effect of his illustration of taking a dump, you really should enrol your ass into york u's kine 4010: physiology of exercise. but yea....to recap..or if you didnt get the moral of the story...
  • take it easy when your shoveling
breath properly, dont let your parents shovel..you shovel.
  • take it easy when youre lifting weights
breath properly and controlled; having the biggest biceps won't mean shit when your in a coffin
  • take it easy when your dropping bombs in your toilet
breath properly, eat lots of fiber so you dont have to exert so much force to push that evil turtle's head out of his shell; use eddie murphy's technique of rocking back and forth when that turd is being stubborn and doesnt wanna swim or use ancient filipino techniques such as rubbing your knee with your palm.

    just some things to consider.
    snow, i loathe you.
