first, one must start his or her day off underslept and with chills all over. next, try to think about what you'll be needing for that long day at school - this may include important things like your buspass - a definite must-have for anyone, first, trying to get to school in order to be in school, some clean clothes for during and after swim class, and of course, your notes and textbooks - for which you plan on reading during your break. also, you may or may not want to pack some extra change so you can buy some grub when that whole blood sugar thing starts dipping beyond your physiological control. next, head downstairs and think whether or not you'd like to eat some breakfast - you know breakfast is the most important meal to eat, but before a swim class, we must consider whether or not that whole big bacon and eggs thing with a bagel or a platter of morning fried rice will really help you out. eventually, you decide, due to time constraints and bus arrival times, that you'd be better off eating after that class, so you go upstairs and hop into the shower instead. hoping that the cold water will wake you up via shocking all the nerve endings along every micrometer of your body, you realize that "hey, this cold water just might be making my possible cold or flu a lot worse". with that, you get out, do what you gotta do, freshen up and begin on your journey to the bus stop. mind you, it's roughly 7:45am at this point..however, you don't breathe one breath of fresh air from outside before you pillage your medicine cabinets and kitchen cupboards for some acetametophin - that's tylenol in laymen's terms (but could also be advil or even aspirin, just the same). so you look, and look..and look. nothing. you ask your parents in desperation where the one possible bottle of pills that may be your solution to such a crumby start of a day, might be. their answer, independent of one another, "if there's none there, then how would i know where it is?"(answering a question with a question never helps anyone or anything, im sure you all know). further, this may or may not be coupled with the common, "maybe your brother took it. ask him". then through your instantaneous super-fast reasoning and logic, you understand and say to yourself, "how the hell am i supposed to ask him where the bottle of pills are, if he's already left the house and is probably on the road, in traffic?". possibly, just possibly that's something you'd say to yourself. with that, you get your butt to the bus stop and try and catch your usual, 8:15 express. you arrive at the bus depot at 8:08am. figuring you'll have more than enough time to catch the bus, you decide to grab a freshly-brewed black cup of coffee. i mean, sure you didnt eat breakfast and sure the coffee's caffine might really mess up your body's empty-stomached system, but hey, you need that java, dammit and nothing can stop you. it's your magic bullet. so you wait in the line...and wait..and wait. originally, there were only 4 people in the line and as stated earlier, you figured youd only take a minute to get your coffee and hop on the bus. but no, not today, sonny (or sally); someone ahead in the line, specifically the person at the beginning interacting with the teller, doesnt know which pass to buy or where they need to get to. this requires more than usual time, im sure you all can conclude. so you jump out of the line, say "screw the coffee" and make your way to the bus that you see pulling up to the stop. 5m outside of the doors and making your way to the stop, the bus pulls in, picks up roughly 6 people, then pulls out again and leaves. wait a minute, it just left. and more importantly, it just left you in the dust. so you go back, figure you might as well get your coffee...you get your coffee and luckily, you realize that yes, there is indeed another bus that goes to your school - 5 minutes after your usual bus. so you make it on your way towards the stop and BANG! like a bat out of hell, it picks up (this time) 3 passengers and darts the hell outta there (what's the deal with that? is there a new v.i.p. monthly bus pass available?). you thought you were gonna make it, and this time, you almost actually did. i mean you were about 8 metres from the stop this time! so you wait at the stop..and wait..and wait. now it's 8:30am. finally, another bus arrives. you get on it..sip your well-earned coffee and make it to school. yes, your head is still throbbing; no, you weren't luckily enough to bump into a friend who had a travel pack of tylenol and no you weren't lucky enough to find even half a piece of tylenol on the ground. it's ok though, as you make it school with ample time until class in the pool starts. head still throbbing, the instructor says that today, youre all gonna be doing front crawl and back crawl strokes. fair enough. that's what you came there for and that's what you were ready to do. you jump in, do your thing and after awhile, cause of your possible flu/cold you realize your breathing sucks. as this class progresses, you get tired faster than usual and you're beat halfway through the lesson. class ends, you hit the showers and yes, your head still throbs like fred flinstone's toe when he drops a bowling-boulder on it. you head to your first lecture of the day. he show's you these weird russian-scripted overheads about training and sport science that accompany his lesson and you figure out that, no you can't decipher anything they say along with the common and expected - you don't understand a gatdamn thing he's talking about. class ends and you leave. now you have your 3 hour break. your peer asks you to join them and their friend from another university for lunch. willing to go on physically, but not mentally and emotionally, this cracking pain in the centre of your skull makes you mouth to yourself "fuckit. im going home. fuck the lecture at 4pm and fuck lunch with friends. i gotta get outta here". with that, you find yourself at home; on your computer and typing about your day right before you check some email, log off and crash on your boxspring.

and that is the art of the splitting headache.

a lot of people disregard hip hop music as an artform.
i say fuck that shit! if that's what you think, then you've been listening to too much pop radio, youve been watching too much mtv and much music.
the roots on the other hand, are true artists. at the forefront of the hip hop movement, the roots crew were one of the few rap groups who implemented a live band playing live instruments into their music - predominately hip hop music. so if youre not into hip hop, and youre willing to venture into something new, i suggest you check out one of the all time greats of hip hop - the roots.

just sharing the wealth, that's all.
i mean hey, even john mayer did a song with them.
how bout that?

truly organic.

star
Go all-star, and get down for yours
To the ladies in the house, be proud of yours
You got the, Roots crew with the sound of course
High, lift 'em up high, okay

When that adrenaline get in they system
It get 'em out on a quest for stardom, could be a motherfuckin problem
in Philly, Cincinatti, Los Angeles or Harlem
Kids call theyself killers let they hammers do the talkin
Don't even know the meaning of life, ain't seen a thing
and you dream of floodin the scenery with, llello and greenery
But for now, you stickin her with the heavy machinery
Wonder how, you lift it up, be only 17
And like e'rybody he wanna shine, young brothers on the grind
Holdin somethin in they spine, "Bowling for Columbine"
Stressin to me how it's all about a dollar sign
Dig the way you out of line, out of sight and out of mind
Up against the clock and damn near out of time
"The Tipping Point" has arrived, and that's the bottom line
To all my peoples that's stars, it's our time to shine
Let's get 'em up high, c'mon

Yo, ain't it strange how the newspapers play with the language
I'm deprogrammin y'all with uncut slang shit
I know some peoples in the party armed and dangerous
Twist some cool champagne, I'm goin through changes
A grown-ass man, I done paid my dues
Learn the rules lil' homey, you could be one too
Niggaz know, ain't no tellin what he gon' do
But recognize young bruh, I'ma do it for you
You know why? We all stars and we highly evolved
Hip-Hop, it's not pop like Kylie Minogue
If it bang, them gettin-busy brothers probably involved
In the game, where e'rybody got a shottie to draw
I guess you probably a thug, you boss ballin or what?
I can't call it man, I got the ladies fallin in love
Cause handsome, intelligent, tough - I'm all the above
I know you knew it it's the movement
Groove to it while you doin it up

Introducin the band you gotta see to believe
He got the mic in his hand, so keep the heat up your sleeve
It's Black Thought, he rockin sharp so the speakers'll bleed
I run a triathalon, you wouldn't see me fatigued
I'm a star, and maybe y'all should cop somethin to be
Or trade some of y'all equipment in for somethin you need
Cause it's a, lot of bullshit floodin the scene
Where e'rybody's a star, and hot shit is few and far between
We lose the grip of what, garbage mean
Shorties wanna be theyself, I know it's hard to be
Don't wanna do the Ruben Studdard and come off less threatenin
Keepin it real'll kill you if you end up lettin it
Ain't it blowin your mind how the game all in line
Now the best, to the rest, we fin' to end up settin it
I'd tell you that I was a veteran but it's evident
You act like you want it, you gon' end up gettin it

Everybody is a star...

oh yea..how could i bounce for the day without leaving you with a treat?...geez...what was i thinking??....

reminiscent of last friday's parking lot incident, i say...
"shabba-dabba-labba...badda-shabba-cabba...shabba-cabba-dabba~!!" in addition to bestbuy's digital video section where no sample handycam connected to a live video screen is safe.
and if that wasn't funny enough, then go watch this clip and slam bush!

football is shit.
nonetheless,
free argos game tomorrow with the boys.

sotd: "church" - bigboi of outkast

very few chicks are 'techy' nowadays.
i just thought it was interesting cause other than my handful of tech-geeks who are dudes, reading this journal...and this one was just profound. theyre cool girls...with a nerdy, cyber kinda disposition.

today i made menudo. but i should state, it was filipino menudo...not the spanish menudo with the 'weird' guts and innards (anyone catch that special on foodtv last week where they showcased spanish menudo?). nada. mine was pretty plain with liver...and the occasion raisin. ill post my recipe later on when i get the chance.

    recently purchased and am playing:
  • tenchu: wrath of heaven
-heavily violent and heavily enjoyable. back in the days when i was young...really young i was asked by my parents to share my aspirations with them. i often spoke of becoming a doctor or a dentist, and frankly, which asian parents wouldn't wanna hear that? my alternate answer that i kept to myself, however, was the true answer; my real feelings. when i grew up, i always knew it was my passion and my calling...to become....a ninja. as the years went by, i realized that i could never be a ninja because:
    1. im not japanese nor do have the cash or the time to go to japan and learn ninjitsu
    2. if i wore a ninja's mask, youd all still be able to easily recognize me with my mole by my eye and my thick ass brows (there's no mystery there)
    3. ninjas dont get paid that much from my knowledge. a few gold pieces and getting to keep those cool weapons, well, that's just not as valuable as they once seemed.

with this game however, i can live out the birth-right that never came to be. i am a ninja; a gruesome ninja. a deadly being - one with the shadows. i am a shadow.

actually, naw, im just some goof who loves video games.
    get a playstation2 yall!
it'll make your day..and even help you fail school.

so it looks like VA during thanksgiving (oct 8-11) is virtually reality.
im heading down with my boy so he can chill with his girl...but of course, i wanna go just for the sake of going too, no doubt.
[dear abs, considering i dont have that much cash, i nominate you as designated food and beverage buyer...and maybe even some gear too!]

    cool? coo.
    (drinks on abs, yessss!!
youre the best girlfriend my friend could ever have.)

as for me, i've been terribly busy these days. shoot, i was so focused on my schoolwork i didnt even feel going out - and i had 4 days off!
i should ask you all, what happens when an italian man marries a filipino woman?
answer...a beautiful baby girl and eventually..well recently..her baptism!
i should also ask..what happens when you have filipinos and italians getting together as one big family?
answer...a bunch of big ass appetites for good eats, that's what.
that was the case at my cousin's daughter's Christening.

man that was all delicious...from the eggplant parmigiana, to the pizza..to cheesy lasagna..to the filpino eggrolls (both fresh and fried)..mom's pandesal....to the chinese food...to the desserts...oh yes..the desserts!
if you invite me to your house to eat, just know imma get my eat-on.
im rarely one of those prim and proper boys who get little dainty samples of food from the host's table. nope...im the hungry, rustic type. the kind who can scarf down a can of chunky soup without the fork or spoon..it's a whole in a can and a hole in one..or is that in one hole out the other? something like that.

back to skool tomorrow. id say it sucks, but really, i dont get enough school with this 3 day class-schedule. i hate to say it, but i could use more.
    back to homework.

    bounce.

ever come across things that you wish you had done?
im not talking about regretting something you didnt do and things turn out bad, im talking about someone else's masterpiece - their work and thinking to yourself, "that ingenius bastard, why didn't i do that? i was supposed to do that!!!" this can include innovative items like the can opener or jimi hendrix's "purple haze". it might've been crack cocaine or the nuclear bomb, for some of us. i won't go there however, for me, one show that i wanted to purchase, out of sheer curiosity was sealab 2021. but hey, im a filipino...a hard working filpino, and i just dont have the money to throw around like that. instead, i used my kazaalite and downloaded a couple episodes. thank you internet piracy (arrrgh, matey!!!). other shows, that i believe everyone should tune into, whether youre white, black, brown, red, yellow, green, purple or royal blue, are the ali g show and chappelle show. youre gonna have to check your local listings, cause im no international t.v. guide. i personally, purchased the 1st season about a month ago (that's 13 episodes; uncut & uncensored) for the dirt-cheap price of $20 CAN!! crazy, huh? but yea, check that out. what i really wanted to write about in this entry, was dave chappelle's block party last weekend! why wasn't i invited???? why wasnt i able to get my butt to n.y. and enjoy? oh yea, it was a secret location...and oh yea, i have no funding. but i was in some forum just now (at this early hour on a saturday) and clicked some links which later led me to a couple articles about *drum roll please*.......[d-rrrrrrrrrrrrrr-rrrrrrrrrr-rrrr]

    [ooh la-la-la!]

..........[tisss!]the fugees reunion!! not that exciting to some of you who aren't familiar with their work and that's just fine. but to those who miss them dearly, ill be glad to let you know, they did a reunion set at chappelle's block party! holla. just thought i'd let you in on s'more of that irrelavent information like always. it's my part and i'll blog if i want to. later, suckers. time to get my run-on.

    bag-logged post

i was on the paradox's turf, and i found some quiz.
being interested in her results, i wanted to see where i stood too.

    they told me...
    jay, you're 14% feminine

This is based on how you scored on a variety of traits that, founded on classic research and our own studies, are typically associated with women.

You're also 86% masculine, which is based on how you scored on traits that are typically associated with men. When we compare your results with other men it shows that you are somewhat less feminine than other men.

it's funny how when you need to wake up the next day, you have a hard time doing so; whereas when you don't need to wake up the next day, you get yourself outta bed as if your mattress was on fire.

    (or is this just me?)

my body is killing me. literally.
every limb is taking turns with one another, disconnecting from my torso and holding a firearm to my head - sometimes sticking the barrel up my mouth and other times getting a louisville slugger and beating me south bronx style. then again, they could also be giving me an l.a. gang beating where all of the limbs just swarm me and stomp a mudhole through my ass.
this is what i mean when i say "my body is killing me".

actually, im just really really sore.
it's no wonder though; i did roughly 3 hours of physical activity...not that it was planned but just because i felt like it.
the 1st hour consisted of me swimming in the morning as mentioned in previous posts. the 2nd hour , somewhere during the day (not consecutively, but between classes - you think im nuts?!!) had me running at my skool's track centre before personal training my classmate and falling into temptation to train myself too. the 3rd hour was a combination of me doing various footwork patterns (jumprope) plus a 3round simulation bout with my punching back - complete with 3min rounds and 1min rest intervals in between and walking between classes all day from one side of the campus to another and back...and back and also, walking my butt home from the bus stop to my house!

so yea...after all that, if i were my body, i too, would take me as a hostage.
as for my hands after yesterday, i think i have microfractures up and down my knuckles. i'd be willing to put a large sum of cash on that one. and as for the skin on my knuckles, the first layer is gone.
if im not too lazy, ill be sure to share these grotesque images with you in due time.

who would you rather have saying this to you? 'mr. dream' or iron mike tyson?

most would say iron mike, but either way, if you think about it, a guy commenting on your finger speed...well, that's kinda messed up.

how about this weather, southern ontario?!!

    g'day.

im not made of wood...im just not.

    i can't float.

swimming...moving through the water - yes.
    floating, well...that's a no-no.

these last few weeks since skool have started have been da bomb! i mean tuesdays and thursdays, i have an identical schedule where i start the day off early in the morning swimming [it's a pratical kinesiology course that us 'kins' have to take, plus many others, to graduate (makes you reminisce about elementary and hiskool phys.ed class, dont it?)], then i have a break to eat lunch, until i have my first lecture of the day for 90minutes...then a big break where i workout and run and/or study/do homework/watch a movie in the film library at my skool/sleep etc till i conclude my long ass day with another 90 minute lecture. then im on my way back home. wednesdays, i have this 2 hour rock class where i just listen to music for the whole duration.
so basically, once my week starts (tuesday), i have this one class in the middle (wednesday) then a repitition of what happened on tuesday (thursday) then my weekend. this is how i envisioned 4th year to be. just cruising...ahh yes. but then again, i really shouldnt sleep nor underestimate my courses...they are 4th year courses where im supposed to specialize my field of study..and that is a lot of money...alot of my gatdam money.

but back to swimming...the instructor is breaking down swimming into it's most basic form. oh yea, sure we're gonna have to do 100 lengths/hr by the end of the semester but rite now..it's all bout the fundamentals.

so as i was saying..i can swim..i can move..i can move and swim..with the help of momentum. but when he said to float...whoa...i, and about 1/4 of the other guys in my class just suck ass.
me specifically, cause of my body type, genetics or fat deposition or all of the above just tends to sink like a rock. floating, still (i.e inert..i.e inmoving)..on the surface of the water just aint my thing.
although i felt outcast, i was assured, by the lifeguard who took me aside and tried to help me 'float', that this case happens alot and no..im not alone.
several of the football players sunk too...and afro-canadian (the afro-american counterpart) students cant either. although they can all swim..they cant float. whatta phenomenon!!!
but dont the two go together?? not necessarily, my friends...that's, like i said, where momentum becomes my best friend.

anyhow, more on this later..i hope everyone's doing good and enjoying their studies.
if not you can all just keep your suffering to yourself, and instead, admire me as i bask glorious rays of my passion we all know as kinesiology.

i study movement, gatdammit, now let me take note of you getting the hell outta my way!

oh yea...VA, im coming at'cha (hopefully, soon)!!!

p.s. and i was hoping i could say that my penis was so huge, it weighs me down like an anchor...it turns out, it's just my dense-ass lower body.
    be buoyant, dammit..buoyant!
    be one with the water.
    be the water!!

    yea, right.

    [that's me.
i really hate it when people write on my face.
    it sucks.]

last nite i got the chance to catch the de la hoya - hopkins fight with rocks and....none other than....my dad...??? (hhahah)

    unfortunately, DLH went down.

he was doing really good for the first 6 rounds. but by the 7th, he was losing gas and showing some signs of fatigue. finally by the 9th, oscar de la hoya took a really nasty blow to his ribs, most likely his liver, and lost his breath momentarily. that is, momentarily long enough that he was counted out.
    tko's suck ass.

but hey, i applaud hopkins for what he is. i cant deny his skill. hes a champion. he even used my move...beat down on the body and the head will fall with it. not because it works..but because im not a very tall man..and really, beating on your body is often my option. however, if you do fight me, itd be adviseable to cover up your mug anyways, as i know that youll expect me to beat down on your body and just because youll be hunched over in your fighting stance.
pretty slick huh? thats just me.

anyhow, both fighters were ready. one was just a little more ready than the other, thats all. then again...thats not just all, that's everything.

oscar wanted to win. he wanted to wind badly, im sure of it. but did he wanna win badly enough?
lets look at hopkins on the other hand...he had everything to gain from this fight. it was the first time he could really prove to everyone that he was a legitimate champion capable of kicking another champ's ass. and he did prove that, indeed.

oscar wanted it..im not taking anything away from him..but did he want it that much? with all the titles hes obtained in the past..and the money he has..i think he lost his hunger.

harper, a guy that was in jail...with no hope or job waiting for him once he got out, had no choice, virtually, to make a living other than to box. in this case, yes, hopkins was hungrIER last nite and is probably still hungry until he fights more champions with such acclaim.

often people ask me what's my secret to success. i dont have my own personal self-help program out there with books and tapes..and a meal plan. shoot, i cant even quote a bunch of famous people for their thoughts on the matter (i dont know enough quotes to even do that). but to answer that commonly asked question...id have to say

    stay hungry.

this applies to so many things on so many different levels.

stay hungry can mean literally stay hungry. in the case of trying to lose body fat for example, stay hungry will mean exactly as dictated. stay hungry.
stay hungry after a meal - don't overeat; everything in moderation
stay hungry going to bed - don't eat before you sleep. you need to have your body awake and able to metabolize those nutrients efficiently.

i can say stay hungry in terms of your involvment in academia.
meaning stay hungry in association with your work..and your grades. never be satiated. never be satisified. there's always room for improvement.

i can say stay hungry in terms of love and relationships.
dont overindulge yourself with the presence of your partner. dont haphazardly use those 3 important words we often long to hear as self-gratification. stay hungry can mean dont lose all the fire in a few weeks. pace yourself. give yourself some space once in awhile and enjoy your friends too...alone time is ok (and no, im not backing masturbation here).

i can say stay hungry throughout life.
always strive...dont get too comfortable where you are; keep pushing; keep climbing.

and before this entry gets too corny and cliche,
i'll say stay hungry and leave you to think how many different ways this can apply to any situation.

me personally, ill always stay hungry and ill even pass that philosophy down to my kids. sure, ill probably spoil them the first couple of years but eventually, when the time comes to really mold them into responsible human beings, leave it up to pops to discipline. oh theyll stay hungry...you can bet on that.

as for oscar last nite, it was said that he hired a nutritionist and trained really hard to prepare for his match.
it showed as you can see..moving up in weight class doesnt necessarily mean gaining fat and water mass. oscar used science and gained muscle mass since muscle is more dense than fat. sweet science oscar..sweet science.

[makes me wanna step my training another notch...
dude was ripped! geezus, mary and joseph!]

but as i was saying..all the money in the world..the best nutritionist, the most cutting-edge training regimen...this all means nothing if you arent hungry (enough).

but yea...im getting hungry and i plan on sleeping by 3am...in this case, imma tap into some of my mom's longan stash and a naval orange of my own.

[an editorial that is so distasteful, yet so true that even i can't bear to read]
    [an underdog]

    later, you hungry buncha kids.

    way too much testosterone.

my brother's car got broken into last nite. they took his mp3/md deck and some other stuff.

my brother's cool with it. but me personally, for some reason, im pissed. i dunno if it's the piscean in me or cause i hate how suburban kids are posturing these days and trying to emulate some kind of inner-city ghetto youth lifestyle, but fuck, im mad. i remember on the cosby show, bill said to his wife, claire, "people don't get mad, they get angry; dogs get mad". well, im mad. im a mad dog.

it's hard to not jump to conclusions..like thinking who could've or wouldve done this. maybe it was the guy who gives you dirty looks a couple houses down from you. or maybe it's that other dude down the street who your dad doesnt like. who fucking knows. it's all too easy to make those kind of assumptions.

anyhow, maybe it's my tempermant or cause, i myself watch too many dirty harry and death wish movies but when things like this happen, to my family, personally, i feel like taking the law into my own hands and being a vigilante.
same thing happend when someone decided to break my basketball net back in the days. or smashed the back window of kuya's chevy - way way back in the day.

    i wanna crack some skulls.
not exactly the most logical reasoning, i know...but im in the heat of passion right now.

(what does "meh" mean exactly, when we type it? for me it's a confused alternative to "eh?" pronounced "ehhhh??" then again, i think it all originated this one time when i mustve tapped the 'm' key by accident in front of my predetermined "eh". you feel me?)

ok, so last time i was talking about my courses in skool. here's where i continue my wrath.
im taking this kine-elective called theory and methodology of training.

[side note to known friends: remember i said i was gonna get my coaching level II certification through this course? well i was sadly mistaken. i dont get level II cfc certification. imma have to settle with my level I and coaching kids. like i ever take advantage of my certifications anyhow. hahah]

this course is pretty cool, i must say. first of all, i have this prof who also coaches the track team at my skool and beyond that, was voted coach of the year by the oua (ontario universities athletics). he's a pretty funny guy..but aside from that..i dont understand a gatdamn thing he's sayin! he has this really thick russian accent and always grunts or stammers in his sentencing; i mean im not complaining cause, down the line, we're all immigrants somehow. canada is the native/aboriginal man's land. so yea..im not beefing about that. i was just saying, i dont understand a gatdamn thing he says. guess ill be teaching myself once again. not a problem. what i wanted to get to was the meat and potatos of this course...
it deals with conditioning athletes and planning specific training regimens. so im on amazon.ca the other day...comparing prices with my skool's bookstore and the student (discount) bookstore across the street from my skool and i was surprised to find out a little tid bit of info that truly fascinated me.
for years now ive been astonished with the credentials that my profs have. well, folks, this course is no exception. periodization was invented by the course director of theory and methodology of training!
did you read that right? do you care? you dont?....oh well ill say it again for emphasis...

    that motherfucker made up periodization!

i was shocked to read about it. hopefully, ill get the chance to talk with tudor bompa himself. i mean this is serious stuff! im honored. motherfucker made up the system! geez.

"When it comes to designing programs for optimal training, Tudor Bompa’s expertise is second to none. Bompa revolutionized western training methods when he introduced his groundbreaking theory of periodization in Romania in 1963. Today, periodization is the basis of every serious athlete’s training.

Periodization is a scientifically based method for structuring short- and long-term training plans. Grounded in current research on exercise physiology, athletic psychology, and training methodology, periodization varies the intensity and volume of training to optimize the body’s ability to recover and rebuild. This results in better performance and less risk of injury.

Periodization: Theory and Methodology of Training presents Bompa’s latest refinements to the theory he developed. Formerly titled Theory and Methodology of Training, this long-standing classic has been translated into nine languages and has come to be regarded as the definitive reference on training theory. Now in its fourth edition, it’s even better organized, easier to read, and more up-to-date than before.

No other book discusses planning and periodization in such detail or with so many specific, practical examples from a variety of sports. Periodization clearly describes

    • the underlying principles of effective training; • the objectives and components of an effective, comprehensive, long-term training program; • proven strategies for optimal peaking; and • how to train for better motor ability, working capacity, skill effectiveness, and psychological adaptability.

Learn how to train for maximum gains with insights from the man who pioneered the concept of periodization. With Bompa’s Periodization, you’ll build stronger, faster, more durable athletes for better performance."

speaking of training...tomorrow nite is the big fight between de la hoya and hopkins!
i really just wanted to lay low this weekend and relax.
so gang...if i dont end up going with my dad to watch the fight at the neighbourhood pub, then by all means, there's an idea for tomorrow nite!

my prediction: hopkins by unanimous decision.

dont throw shit at me! im a big de la hoya fan. im just saying, hopkins strategy is solid. and based on de la hoya's conditioning in his last fight, my hope in him has faltered. but that's all totally subjective. i gotta see how they both fight in the first couple rounds to solidify my choice of winner.

dont miss this one, boxing fanatics!

did anyone see the amazing race this evening???

if not, then you sure missed out. tonite's episode had those 8 crazy fools running their butts around the world and eventually landing themselves in where else but the magnificent manila, philippines!!!

they had to decorate a jeepney and plow a rice field with a water buffalo ("caribou"). it was crazy. if i made it there in the race..id probably just quit and roll around in the mud for a while. cause go figure...i'd be back in the motherland.
    hoooraaaay!

i dont usually watch alot of t.v. but thanks, rj for the heads up.
    ___________

    skools in - so what?

im kidding. geez. dont get your panties all bunched up.
so this past first week has been a little hectic. not really.
but i did have this one course where i was feeling the most stress ever, of all time.

ya see, this course is called "physiological basis of fatigue". and when i say fatigue, idont simply mean tired or like how you feel when you've had your face in a textbook for hours on end. not that sorta fatigue. this fatigue deals mainly with muscle fatigue and an interruption in 'tasking'.

    dont believe me?
    [cue demo]
with an outstretched arm, palms facing up, hold a yellowpages phonebook in your hand. youll eventually know the meaning of muscular fatigue. this is called an isometric contraction.

can we say that class? "iso-met-rik-con-trak-shuh!"
yes. yes! that's it. that's "iso" meaning isolated as in unchanging and "metric" as in length. meaning the muscle fiber does not change length and therefore, does not shorten from it's point of insertion to origin.
    [end demo]

    "that's isometric, baby!"

as if i didnt take enough physiology courses up until this point (recall, phys I, II and exercise phys.), i thought id be a badass and take this one. not only did it fit nicely in my schedule, it also sounded damn interesting.
so i get into class..it's a small class. a fourth year class. roughly 40 people. and the prof right off the bat starts picking and choosing people out of the audience, on the first day, to explain several different types of human physiology-related phenomena. for instance, dude asked us to explain muscle contraction starting from the, very broad, stimulus presentation level...to the nervous level..to the motoneuron level...down to the very meticulous molecular level. of course everyone was on the spot. cause of course..not everyone remembers specific receptors, anatomical references and neurotransmitters along with molecular charges of certain solutes. and even if they did...who the fuck can concentrate for that task on the first day?!! anyhow, my heart was pumping throughout the whole 1.5 hr ordeal. all i can remember is him saying "if youre not looking at me, im gonna pick you out of the crowd".
luckily, i had my eyes bugging out of my face and i followed his every move. and thankfully to God, he didnt pick me.
i mean it is a good course. the content is very interesting. an intimate class is what i always prefer v.s. the hundreds that i've had in my first couple years as a kine major. but sincerely, this course is very demanding. and frankly, i was planning on just cruising through the remainder of my life as an undergraduate. i've had the hard courses. ive had the hard core courses. i mean im in fourth year now. im basically done. all i wanna do is boost up my gpa as much as i can so i can apply to my graduate programs and/or teaching. that's all. i mean sure, if i wanted to work in a sports medicine lab and train the most elite athletes by pinpointing the root cause of fatigue and taking away or minimizing this root cause, then sure, id keep it. but im sorry to say blogger audience..i dropped it.
it's ok if youre disappointed. it's ok if youre not. some of my classmates were. but really, i had to do what was right for me. that shit was just too demanding. and although the thought of class discussions on the latest journal findings and studies along with applications of our knowledge to the subject does seem very tempting and promising to me...i had to pass. these are my grades here. for now, grades take precedence over desire.

i have another class - it's called "rock and popular music". it's a fine arts music course..but for non majors. basically, like i said before, i listen to rock songs (currently from the 50s to later..the present) for two hours. the prof then explains subtleties and history behind each and every song and musician. it's a really fun course and basically im gonna be tested "jeopardy" style where i get a sample of the song. all i gotta do is name the title, artist, release date(this could be hard) and album. not that bad. oh yea, here's the hard part.
i have to write 300 journal entries about 350 different artists by the end of the course.
let's take a look at my first one, shall we?...

    1. Bill Haley And His Comets - “Rock Around the Clock” (1955), Shake Rattle and Roll.
Often claimed by historians as “the dawn of rock ‘n’ roll music” (allmusic.com) - this song by Bill Haley And His Comets is often overlooked, by most, as an essential song in the genre’s history. Bill was born in Highland Park, MI, and was blind in one eye. This, as a result, made him a very shy and introverted boy coming up. After his family’s move to Boothwyn, PA, the shy and young Bill Haley found comfort and self-confidence through playing his guitar and listening to country music records. It was in 1944 that Haley’s big break came about when he was to take the place of Kenny Roberts in the band The Downhomers. It was with this band that Haley made his first appearance on records. After leaving the band in 1946, Bill returned to Chester, PA where he formed his own group The Saddlemen. Under David Miller’s Holiday Records in 1951, Bill and The Saddlemen did a cover of R&B artist Jackie Brenston’s “Rocket 88”. However, instead of mimicking what was previous done by Brenston,, The Saddlemen put their own twist on their version by adding a sort of upbeat country element with a lead guitar adding elements of blues to the sound. Although Haley did not like the song nor the sound, the Saddlemen were obliged to follow the orders of label-owner Miller. The result was to be the first white-band cover of what is now regarded as the original true rock’n’roll record (allmusic.com). However, the record lacked popularity in both the R&B and country music world and had mediocre sales at best. As the band continued in their career, David Miller noticed that Haley and the Saddlemen were gaining popularity among young teenagers – especially whenever they played their stylish ‘country-boogie’ covers of R&B songs. Eventually, the band scraped their ‘Saddlemen’ moniker along with their country music image and renamed themselves ‘The Comets’ playing off their front man’s name. By 1952, the band began to take a closer look at R&B groups of the time and emulated several of their elements. Later that year, James Myers offered Miller and Haley his published piece, “Rock Around the Clock”. This was the record that broke the band through in terms of popularity – reaching number 1 on the charts and selling over 7 million between 1954 and 1955; it is also the record too often overlooked as the first true rock’n’roll song.
Observations: To me, this song is very fun and upbeat. Even if you don’t tend to dance to music, this song will, at the very least, have anyone snapping their fingers in tempo with the drummer. I also found the guitar in the song to blend perfectly with the horns and the bass without seeming out of place. Also, the catchy vocals of “Rock Around the Clock” will have you singing to yourself all day long. Personally, I chose this as my first entry because I wanted to give credit to the original band that was and is often overlooked by many as the first true rock ’n’ roll band – Bill Haley And His Comets.
Analysis: When compared to most rock ’n’ roll songs of today, “Rock Around the Clock” unconventionally implements horns and a bass throughout the song. Also, during vocal breaks, a prominent and wild guitar in concert with horns can be heard to create highs that work effectively with the ‘lows’ of the bass throughout the song. Evident with the era, is the song’s length which, like most songs of the time, is under 3 minutes.

i think ill even post all my entries on another blogger for a limited time just so you can read and fall asleep to.
this class is gonna be fun. it's a first year course too! holla.
    now...just 299 to go.
    yessss! im almost there!

i have a couple more courses, plus my kinesiology-practical course - swimming..but we'll get to that another time. it's getting late and i have school tomorrow.

oh yea? being that my skool has historical jewish roots and is set in a jewish area, it's only right that all scholars who attend york U observe jewish holidays, isn't it? with that said...i say, happy rosh hashanah, my jewish brothers and sisters!!

we definitely SHOULD NOT do that anymore.

    where were you that day?

so it's the third anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and i pose this question to you.

i personally was in my freshmen year of university. i was 19 years old. skool had just started a week ago, similar to today, and i was in my first lecture for east asian studies - humanities 1400. i really didnt know what to expect from the class and being that i arrived late, i chose the nearest open seat i could find.
surprisingly, regardless of the day's happenings, the lecture and professor went on with the course outline. at this point mind you, it's roughly 11am and i had no clue what was going on in the states.
anyways, in a class of 200 (90% being of east asian descent) a big white dude comes up to me, out of nowhere and taps me on the shoulder during the lecture (me out of all people. is it cause i dont look asian enough?...whatever that is..). being that university was something new to me, i really didnt know what to think. at first i thought i took his seat while he left to go take a dump in the washroom. then i realized i was wrong. white dude exclaims to me, "did you see what's going on in the u.s.?"
    "no."
"there's a war going on there, man!"
[i think to myself] "what the hell is this guy raving about? leave me alone, cracker!"

at this point, in confusion and trying to pay attention to the man upfront lecturing i look over to my neighbour stranger and realize that the exchange chinese student next to me probably couldnt make any sense of what that guy said either.
fast forward to my 1hour break after that class and being that i knew virtually nobody at skool at this point, i headed my lonely ass to the arcade for some solace and maybe a little streetfighter. it was here that i saw a crowd of kids watching the surrounding monitors. and it was here, that i, myself, saw replays of the north tower going down..and eventually the south one.
whoever didnt feel chills going through them that day during those news exposures - congratulations, you are clinically dead.

for the rest of the day i was pretty much in a trance-like state. i went to my remaining lectures and looking back, i dont think anything sunk in. i dont think it should have anyhow.
as for my friends frequenting skool in the downtown core of toronto - from their accounts of the day, they were let out early for safety precautions that the c.n. tower would be a terrorist target.

and that's where i was that day.

everyone has their own days that change their lives.
take my mom for example, it was 9/11, the attempt on reagan's life and jfk jr.'s assassination along with the death of elvis that she remembers so sharply.

for me, at this point, it's probably 9/11 the most.

sure i was alive during that flurry of skool shootings during the 90s along with the oklahoma situation and even the gulf war, but i dont think i really understood the whole matter at those ages.

back to what's real here, let's just appreciate life today.
let's cut all the hatred out for one day. let's forget about terror, bin laden and al queda. we have the other 364 days of the year to do that. for this one day, let's just appreciate life and even the most minute things that are often overlooked - like having youre family around, clothes on your back, or even the ability to walk and function properly.
let's remember those who passed away.
let's not think about how they died but how they lived. let's live ourselves.
and i'll say it again, let's just celebrate life.
i think we tend to overlook these things nowdays, whether it be because of our involvement with skool, work, kids, parents, pets, bills etc. etc.
let's stop that from now on or at least, for this moment.

have you talked to God lately?

    live motherfucker, live.

wow, yet another friday nite where i stay in. these are rare. i remember last year, we'd go out every nite of the weekend. seeing that skool is here once again, i think i needed this friday at home.

so what does a man of leisure do on a friday nite?
some might think a jar of vaseline, a couple skinflicks and a squirting vagina toy.
others might think a bottle of j.d.'s and a staggering conversation with self along with a glazed over stare into space.

those are some beliefs. this man, however watched some good ol' fashioned cable television. and cable television, sorry, i should restate that...to you, friday nite cable television - it's been a long time coming, my sweet.

friday nites have everything and nothing on at the same time. what i mean to say is, most shows after 9pm on a friday nite contain everything about nothing. which is okay i guess...once in awhile. surely, i cant watch discovery, a&e, history, the food network and tlc alone. i gotta have some yin to my yang, right kids?

so im flipping through and i must say, there's a great assortment of entertaining garbage on every channel in several different languages.
there was mexican wrestling of course on telelatino.
after a few minutes of watching 6 masked men beat the crap out of eachother with high flying, mask-ripping, mexican-screaming antics, i flipped the script and came across the conan o'brien show (is that how you spell it or is it an 'a'? oh well...who gives a shit at this hour) there he had paris hilton as his guest. i personally dont like paris. im sorry..maybe to some of you she's gorgeous but to me, she's way too skinny (uh oh, i can hear the feminists kicking down my door now). if i brought her home to my house or around my friends everyone would probably think i was dating a crack head. cmon...girl looks like a fucking chicken wing. then again, she's a rich bitch..so if she was a crack head then she may very well be able to afford her habit. and if i was dating a crack head like her, then hell, she can buy me enough crack to last a lifetime!...yes, a very brief lifetime, but nonetheless - enough crack for a lifetime, yawls!!

as most men do, i continued flipping...and surfing..and flipping all the while with my tshirt riding up and my belly exposed to the cool surface of my cranberry italian leather sofa.
it was beauty and grotesque all balled into one.
mind you women, we men surf because we are hunters. so if you get married, or are married..and your getting pissed cause the mr. keeps hitting the clicker, then think about the neanderthal man and his god-given will to hunt and search for the perfect meal [channel] vs the wise super-fast, super-calculating female species who catches the t.v. guide channel and conserves her energy - nursing her brain with what's on each and every channel - the easy and effective way (vs the grunting, hairy, spear-holding, scratching, dizzying, channel-flipping ways of myself).

anyhow...as the hours progressed into the early morning of today, the adult shows came on.
    oh yes.
everything from some guy running around naked and finding an old condom still on him (really fucked up shit on bravo late nites) to some spanish soap opera where everyone is humping and the ladies are full-frontal nudists with large fake sacks of saline shoved into their chests to fatal attraction uncut and unedited on the women's network to some softcore porn movie on city tv. yes, late nite friday t.v. is raunchy..and yes, although i wanted to get away from the t.v. i couldnt pull myself away from all the corruption. maybe it was the high-in-simple-sugar oatmeal cookie that caused me to release serotonin and fall half-assed asleep and still watching or maybe it was, again, the cool comforting feeling of the couch but i really couldnt pull myself away. in the end, the selling point for me to get my ass upstairs and into my room was the fact that i didnt brush my teeth for the nite. the thought of my teeth rotting for at least 6 hours, as a result of my own negligence..well i cant go for that.
so i did..and now, the cool minty flavour in my mouth and the water on my face has me awake and unable to sleep.
which is why i just wrote all of this banter.

one last thought, in those 1-800 commercials with the chicks in bikinis holding the phone...who the fuck believes that you really get to talk to them???
and really, why would they be stuck at home waiting for a slob like you to call? honestly.

    "hey stud..wanna talk? im waiting..."

and let's say for a minute all that is true...if theyre that hot, and theyre waiting for you to call..and are getting paid a measely cut of the $14.50/min that the hotline company gets from you...then theyre probably really trannys.
and if that is for real and they really are waiting for you to call...in their bikinis...at home..with their girlfriends with them..jumping up and down..coming out of the ocean and onto the beach..rubbing oils on themselves and their friends why would they wanna talk to you, jag-off?

if that really is the case.

(t.v...and you wonder why im so fucked up)

    procrastination is masturbation.

    quick low-down:

went to colin's house for his annual bbq on friday. burgers. encouraged filipino parental drinking of french-canadian white beer, punch and...cognac??..along with good friends is always a guaranteed good time. big-ass thanks for everything colin.

saturday had me painting my house with my pops. for the nite, i had my mind set to staying home and just enjoying some long-missed and needed quiet time before skool to regroup. alas, that never happened. my plans to make new mds and download a shitload of music along with read up on some notes didnt fall through as planned. in a spur of the moment move, i spontaneously combusted my ass out of my house and joined my peoples downtown for clubbing. although i really didnt wanna be there in the beginning, the nite turned out be pretty damn good. good lookin out to all who joined me. it's always a treat when all or most of us take time out of our busy schedules and meet up once in awhile - which is exactly why im proposing that every month we all make plans to meet up at least once..somewhere..even if it's to count the blades of grass on my lawn. think about that.

fast forward to today, really leisure on my part. did absolutely nothing. didnt even exercise today. didnt even buy my GOpass yet - was going to but the realization that they hiked up the monthly fare for a pass (see tagboard) kinda turned me off. i decided to watch the rockython on a&e instead (part III is concluding as i type, so if youre reading this within reasonable time, go park your ugly butt in front of the box and catch the concluding two..or just till IV considering that rocky V sucks). as for dinner, i guess this is the conclusion to summer. my family had what is most likely our last bbq of the season. that was a total of about 3times we grilled considering this weather has been unseasonly mostly frigid and wet where i live. it's kinda odd how the shit weather in the southern states enables us to get what should be their's. thanks hurricane frances but at the same time, out of respect for 'floridians', screw you. that's all. tonite?..clubbing again?..maybe. but a steeping hot cup of timmy's tea would do the trick for me just the same.
    posse out.
    cne tomorrow.

    i contain multitudes.

famous lines from dr. malszecki - my first year foundations of kinesiology prof and my last year's gender and sport prof.

like i said in a previous post, i take my years in skool as a measurement of age rather than the normal solar calender years most of the population follows. does this match my skeletal age? who knows? i dont really care. anyhow i went up to skool today and realized that all those fucking yahoos at skool werent losers who like to hang around skool before skool starts; none of them were even like me getting my student proof of purchase/validation card/student discount GoBus i.d. card..no no no..all those yahoos were froshies. and shit...everyone looks so gatdamn young. maybe it's my near-sightedness but i swear people there looked like they were 16 or even 15. wsupwitdat? which just reminds me that if youre turning 23 this year, like me, and your in your final year of university/college (in canada, considering everyone else who graduated highschool in the class of 2000 probably finished a year or two ago..everyone else, that is, not in ontario) then you probably cant take in the fact that hey...
youre almost in the real world!

hard to believe that 3 years zoomed by since highschool commenced. where the hell did all the time go, i ask?

to all my peoples getting ready to tackle this year IV or whatever year youre in upon completing your education, i tip my hat off to you.

    you earned it.

as i saw all the froshies walking around with their maps, and their tourguides, free college/res tshirts and their questions, i for some reason felt a great sense of pride..which was rightfully earned of course. cause shit, making it to 4th year in whatever your majoring in does take alot of work and discipline. shit like that just isn't handed to you. you gotta appreciate yourself for this reason, if any reason. anyhow, as i was saying, i was proud; chest flared out and spine erect was this kinesiologist's walking pattern. and why shouldnt it be? im not cocky. as many, including mostly colin says, "it aint cocky if you can back it up"..and in my case, i did all my readings, i put in my volunteer work, worked to put my ass thru skool, did all the labs and even pulled my share of all-niters, so yea, i do have a reason to strut my stuff. cause like ive been saying before...only 10% of the world's population makes it into post-secondary studies. upon further investigating this notion, i realized that "shoot, i'm almost done"..with near-flawless performances throughout the years (thank you almighty God for not having me fail anything) to boot too.

once again, to all of you entering your final year this term, gluck and make it count.

one more thing...have fun with it. it's 4th year! enjoy your school; enjoy your profs and t.a.'s; enjoy your studies and enjoy your friends.

sit back and enjoy the ride, biotch!

btw, we're all partying together in roughly 8 months right? see you all at commencement - if not mine, then yours.

p.s. if youre losing focus throughout the year, come back and read this entry. read..read and read it till your eyes fall out of your face. read it for an hour, over and over. we'll call it 'jay's hour of power'.

[this could be you. have your pick:
the black guy..blonde chick or white dude with glasses]

    be gone.

so i just got back from waterloo.
if yall did not get the chance to make it tonite, then you definitely missed out. we ate at that thai/viet place with the spring rolls. i think ive found me new "regular" next time we frequent a vietnamese restaurant. most definitely, itll be the curry chicken on egg noodle soup for me. when ordering, i figured..."hmm?..i like curry...egg noodles are good..and i almost always eat chicken..so why not get the curry chicken egg noodle soup". ya see, i'd prounouce it in vietnamese tongue, but really, there would be too many short "i" and "e" sounds with the accents for my liking and typing. but yea...yall missed out. and whats more?..we visited that lucky bastard's [aaron] new house for this upcoming school term.
holy shit is all i gotta say. that guys one lucky bastard. dude gets a brand new house..that in my opinion looks better than my home (from the outside..cant say much for the cat shit and dust inside)..with rent being $350 - utilities included.
and what about them perks???....a young(er) female housemate...and a jacuzzi!
for fuck's sake...looks like imma be spending a lot of time in waterloo either skipping class or commuting from waterloo to york (where i go to skool). if you didnt know, those are complete opposite sides of ontario. but hey...we all gotta go up there and check out this house of his
    and throw a party.

    huh? what? who typed that???

    i like girl's butts.
the female anatomy is a beautiful thing.
if i were female id probably condition/shock-therapy myself to be a (lickin') lezzie. cause i think about it..the male form is really disgusting.

how do you advanced, vagina-toting beings, stand us?

    anyhow, i like girl's buttockssssss *emphasize 'z-like' 's'-sound, please*.
what i dont like are girl's buttcracks staring me in the face as i grocery shop or eat dinner or try to read the latest edition of men's health. what i dont like [pause]

    [kill silverfish on my desk...there.pulverized.]

    [unpause]

    are girls'

thongs coming out the top of their jeans like it's cool. that shit aint cool. that's disgusting. are you trying to be like us guys - with our boxers and wears coming up over our low-ass riding jeans? cause if you are, that aint nice. i like low rise jeans on chicks..but fuck, dont show me your underwears till we get to your crib. and if youre gonna show me your wears out in public, you might as well just pull your pants down all the way to your ankles. dont half-ass it. in human physiology we have this thing called the all-or-none law in muscle contraction. it means that a muscle either full contracts or fully relaxes - there are really no grey areas or half way propagations of action potentials firing across the neuromuscular junction to produce a twitch in muscle fiber.

"i likes me those girls' buttockssss"

i believe the same goes for chicks and their thongs. dont show me your ass with your thong over your denims. that's raunchy..it's not sexy..there's no class in that. and you make my dick soft.
either dont show me..or show me all.

    the all or none law.

i apply the all-or-none law to many things we come across in our everyday lives. you'll notice...
