G.O.D. (gaining one's definition)
so i had a talk with God today.
we joked around...discussed the weather, the nba and the nhl playoffs..the nasdaq. but really, the Big Guy gave me some guidance. i was wondering how the
hel-... i mean
heck i was gonna come up with my cash..and beyond that, what do i really wanna do and where do i wanna go after i graduate..
WHICH IS PRETTY DAMN SOON, MIND YOU!. i also asked him to help me find this stash of cash that i misplaced in my room.
he postulated a pretty good answer and hey...i found my stash 'o' cash, too!
thanks Big Guy.
____________
because a mind is a terrible thing to waste
so i've been putting together my schedule more or less for this coming fall's term over at
YORK DORK U and frankly, ive been trying to figure out what kind of path i wanna take to build on my career...cause really, isn't this what getting a magnificent and critically acclaimed degree, that everyone's talkin about, really the meaning of?
to make some good coin in the future?
to attract some good ass?
to buy a fast car?
to feed your kids?
to put a shirt on your back?
to buy a pet white tiger that you can ride around your neighbourhood on just to show off?of course it is!...or not.
personally, me loving my job takes precedence over the amount of cash there is to be made. maybe i just turned off a lot of my female viewers who want a well established, secure man, but fuck, i can't do a job day in and day out for the cash. first and foremost i gotta love what im doing - this is the next 50 years of my life we're talkin here. it might sound cliche, but i honestly believe that timeless saying,
"if you love what youre doing, youll never work a day in your life". hopefully im not delusional and hopefully, if i
do end up doing something that i honestly love, the cash will fall into place, in addition.
i dont wanna be that guy (who was in my 1st year east asian studies class) with the information technology degree who works part-time at made in japan (at square one shopping centre..so go there and give him some props and support!) serving up sprouts and extra sauce. i dont wanna be that asshole who can recite any page from
powers & howley's 5th edition of exercise physiology..to me, what im learning is so much more than just remembering concepts. how is that
true knowledge? i wanna understand and apply mine! i dont wanna end up working in some industrial warehouse or factory for the rest of my life - thats why i take these jobs in the summer - to help me appericiate where im gonna be one day. i dont wanna be the rich asshole with the bad hairpiece who gets divorced every 3 years. neither do i wanna join the circus or pro wrestling...etc. etc. fuck that shit. that's a total waste of talent.
you get the picture.
so yea...i've been thinking..and thinking..and thinking where the hell i wanna go with this degree. there are so many ways i can branch off, but i gotta know where i'd best be a valued asset and most useful to this society.
i know more or less, where i wanna go..so rather than relying solely on my internal view, i seeked an external view of myself. i asked numerous people, "what do you see me doing in the future?..you see me in a clinical setting, a research setting or a teaching setting?"
my exact words.
so let's examine some answers shall we?...
my dad is really pressin' me to go into the clinical setting..more specifically as a physiotherapist. i think he wants free coverage. then again, maybe it's just filipino father braggin rights he's after. if i dont get in, he's even willing to ship me away to somewhere where i do get in.
my mom is totally cool with whatever i do, as long as im happy. over breakfast today, we had this discussion and she said she envisions me doing research. her reasoning was that a clinical environment isn't fast-paced enough for me. she further claimed that i love to learn..so with research, id constantly be posing questions in an attempt to challenge myself and gain satisfaction from answering them. i agree with her..from my past experience..i believe a clinical setting is ok..but it ain't all that.
"it's like she had one rule - there was no such thing as too much school."
colin says that i explain things pretty good..and that he could see me teaching. i value this man's opinion greatly as he knows me pretty damn good...from highschool radio, to quarter-dropping near kilted girls in highschool to icq chat sessions circa 1999 (before the almighty and stable msn came into my life).
james (see conclusion to this entry for more information on who james is, other than my homie) believes that id be a good teacher too. he thinks, and ill quote his words exactly, that "[i'd] be one of those teachers who really changes [his] students' lives for the better. [i'd] impact people. [i'd] also be one of those jokers who fucks around with his students and jokingly embarasses them while at the same time goofing around." james also thinks that if i taught, id inspire my pupils to go to university. he believes that if my students saw that i was able to get through university, they'd believe there's a chance for them too. quoting james again, "[my] students would believe anything is possible for them to grasp. [the students would] wonder how the fuck an idiot like [me] got thru university". good to know. thanks, james. your opinion is greatly valued too.
any more suggestions? comments are greatly welcome.
personally, im rapidly shifting towards teaching..but there's still that part of me that wants to research. then again, there's that challenge and that life-long dream to be a physio or chiropractor.
ill probably combine teaching and research and be a professor....is this a plan?....
stay tuned to this blogger in future years to find out.
the saga continues...

an email from james
my friend james (mentioned earlier above) doesn't email me that much..but i'll tell ya, when he
does email me, out of all my contacts and all my friends...and probably out of everyone out there in cyberspace, his emails
ARE THE MOST IRRELEVANT EMAILS I EVER GET IN MY MAILBOX!!
like this
link he sent me.
this is so oldskool! i can already picture him watching this at his computer (yes, the same computer where we found his half empty jar of vaseline at - but yo, i ain't asking questions!!!) and laughing his ass off till he pisses himself.
whatta guy!!!
what-A-guy!!
james, which filipino hasn't seen this email and this movie??? tell me, james! which?
dude thinks i just got the internet last week or something. holy smokes!! that link is just as old as the email with the black and white blob that turns into jesus' face...that email is just as old as the first chain email ever sent where if you forward it...youll find your true love or youll have good luck for 16 days and 5 hours or youll find large sums of cash under a rock somewhere when your walking to the corner mac's milk to get a slushie (the big ones for $1.50 where you put the mouth of the lid right up to the nozzle so you can get your full money's worth)..yea those emails..this email is so old. but yea...thanks for the link james. i almost forgot about that one.
if youre filipino, enjoy
that link..if youre not...enjoy the link anyways! and i promise, you won't get bombarded with porn or the world's largest casino pop-ups when you visit. no foolin'.
