in canada we have this long weekend (which is concluding in t-4 hours) that we call victoria day. victoria day a.k.a. "may 2-4" (as in either the week of may 24th of '2-4' as in a case of 24 bottles of beer) usually signals the beginning of summer. it's a 3 day weekend where monday is observed by having all the stores, post offices and gov't services shut down. of course, as you all know, chinese people never close shop - which is why i tip my hat off to them; where others, including the whites, blacks and even us filipinos relish statutory holidays or any time off where pay is given, the chinese work their asses off to feed their kids. one example of this is how i took my mom grocery shopping this morning. i must say, asians are not excluded from being idiots. asians are not special (myself included.) i mean, who else would choose to go grocery shopping in an asian supermarket - knowing damn well all other non-asian markets are closed for the day? who?!! my mom and myself, that's who..yea us and about 300 other asians spanning from koreans, vietnamese, chinese, indians and others. all to do our shopping.

[violence erupted as beef tripe went on sale for 1/2 price today]

what is the reasoning behind it all?..i shall never know. maybe we all thought that nobody else would be doing their shopping; maybe everyone is supposed to be up in their cottage for the weekend or even camping; maybe everyone drove south towards buffalo. whatever the case, my advice to anyone visiting an asian market on a holiday is to not visit an asian market on a holiday.

leave your asses at home and sleep.

does anyone remember the l.a. riots that were happening during the rodney king trial of the '90s? the looting, the fires, the choppers, the national guard? well that's how it was in there! was there free meat being given away at the butcher's counter? who knows? i'll never know 'cause my mom and me weren't crazy enough to stick around and order our 1/2lb of ground beef - there were more important things at stake..like the well-being of our lives or even the risk of having one of our appendages being severed off from oncoming shopping carts. leave your asses at home.

check
seeing that it's now unofficially summer, i usually give myself some objectives or checklists. here's a checklist of things to do:

  • [jun 8] canada's wonderland
  • shopping (i need to cop some new shoes, shorts and shades)
  • get a full-time career-related job [asap]
  • make tuition for next term and beyond
  • attempt to plan out my 2006 post-graduation travelling
  • purchase my lap top
  • can-fit pro certification (im already a certified coach; y not?)
  • volunteer (both clinical and community work)
  • road trip (montreal? virginia?)
  • camping x 2 (concluding july and concluding august)
  • bbqs (one of which was last night at colin's bday)
  • leisure days (where we just lounge and stroll downtown)
  • fitness (attn. to more running, boxing and core work)
  • drinks and appetizers
  • clubs (off and on..'cause frankly, i think we're exiting this whole scene)
  • video game nights (sports games, army strategies, racing, and just plain old fashioned killing)
  • concerts
  • movies (or 'films' as you distinguished & artsy snots like to call them)
  • house parties

now those were "to-do's"; will they be done?..that's a whole 'nother question. peace out. i shall read some bookage while fireworks sound off in the background and my dog becomes scared to death by their sounds.
