ishe VS babyface

i've been following the contender since it's first episode last weekend. however, i missed the special edition on thursday nite..which takes us to tonite's episode which is 3 shows deep by now.

today, east coast vs west coast competed for choice by playing a modified version of dodgeball - probably one of the wackest contests yet. but then again, i only saw the first show where they had to run up the hollywood hill carrying logs as a team. i also heard thursday's show had them doing a relay race up and down the stairways of the home depot centre.

the final result of the dodgeball contest was west coast coming out on top.
the show centered around the rivalry between ishe and "babyface" ahmed. for weeks the two contenders have been trash talking eachother claiming they can kick eachother's ass. tonite's outcome proved ishe to be the better man. i personally hate prettyboys like ahmed who talk a whole lot of shit. sure he hit harder and maybe he even won on points..but ishe proved to be better because of what magic word of the day that i keep on talking about, kids?...

**ding ding ding**

that's right..."heart". ishe had a lot of heart.
here's where i sound really corny: ishe was able to dig deep down inside and come through with some devastating combos eventhough ahmed seemed like he would win and eventhough ahmed "babyface" almost knocked ishe out.
good job, ishe.
as for choosing sides, since episode 1, i was on the east coast side - 'cause im from the east coast. however, the west is showing and proving. so i now choose the west as the coast with the most.

[side notes]
**nbc for a minute appeared to make this a battle between christianity and islam (as most u.s. stations do. morons.)

**"babyface" is a punk for disrespecting sugar ray leonard during their sparring session. don't try and show off with a great..and have some respect. it's called sparring, not bar-room brawling.

**it's totally understandable that nbc and mark burnett, sly and sugar ray and any editor or director involved with the production have to cut down the rounds to 1minute of t.v. time (or even less)..but damn, i wanna see the whole round, dammit!
(that was just a personal rant)

**the contender is the poor man's ultimate fighter (currently being aired on spiketv every week). unfortunately, i only have basic cable. but that's not to take anything away from the contender..i love boxing too. i grew up in a household of boxing...then again, i also grew up in a household of canned meat and sardines on rice, so what's that got to show? beats me.

["sugar" ray leonard: ever wonder where
boxers get their nicknames?
what's implied here?..is he sweet on his feet
or sweet with his fists?
maybe he's just a sweet guy, who knows?]

**the contender is way too emotional. the music; the camera angles; taking the cameras into the homes of the fighers etc. they do a good job of 'building up' in that show. some purists of boxing may love it and some may hate it - but you gotta agree, it's giving the sport some exposure. i mean true exposure.

**in my ethics of kinesiology class, we once came across the issue of sport vs game. and included as a sub-branch was the area of "sportsmanship" (or sportspersonship to be politcally correct). it was questioned in the definitive sense of 'modern' sport whether boxing is a sport. i answer - hell yea, boxing is a sport. others think that because boxing (and mixed martial arts contests) is not a true sport because both opponents deliberately try and injure the other. i saw screw all of that. boxing is one of the original sports next to track and field. boxing and wrestling and track contests were implemented by the greek and roman armies as a form of physical fitness during off-war times. how can you even question the significance of boxing in sport? it is a true sport. sure some people get injured but at least in boxing, you're not trying to front the use of violence by having it as an instrument of victory - as in cases of football and basketball alot of the time. read up on your sport history. besides, boxing is a true sport in my book because when you get in the ring, there's nowhere to run, no team mates to help you and no intricate rules or boundaries.
you agree, i know colin..anyone else like boxing or mma (mixed martial arts).
as you can see, im an aficinado. i've also shifted from a love for team sport to individual sport (but don't think im anti-social or anything).
